AMI DESBOIS (best price 4-1) will find this a bit easier than the handicaps he's been contesting of late, in which he’s acquitted himself well in both starts this term. The veteran was deemed good enough to contest last year's Grand National and was running an ok race until getting brought to a standstill before finishing sixth in the Welsh National trial on his return. He could only manage fifth last time but he travelled well for a long way and connections have had this race in mind since. He’s the joint second-highest rated in the field and, in the hope Tom Broughton can get a tune out of him, he could prove tough to pass from the front.

PRESENTANDCOUNTING (best price 6-1) was pulled out of a race at the Cheltenham Festival presumably in favour of this easier task and that can pay dividends with a bold display on his return to action. The eight-year-old has won five of his seven starts in this sphere and while he probably returned a fortunate winner on his penultimate outing, he’s three-from-three over this distance in this sphere. Donald McCain has an excellent strike-rate at this course and his participant could take some catching if handed a soft lead under Brian Hughes with plenty more to offer.
