16.25 Pontefract

MUSIC SEEKER (best price 14-1) has mostly raced over further and hasn’t won for quite a while but there are question marks over a few of these who arrive out of sorts whereas Declan Carroll’s charge shaped quite nicely on his reappearance at Doncaster last time and gets his favoured ground dropping back in trip. Zak Wheatley takes off a valuable 5Ib and he’s likely to ride him prominently at a course that often favours those up with the pace. He’s gone close at this venue before off a much higher mark and with that latest outing under his belt, he’s dangerous to discount from the front off a career-low mark.

The only runner, however, who arrives on the back of a good showing is STATELY HOME (best price 3-1), who’s been unlucky to be narrowly denied the last twice and appears to be very well-treated off a mark of 73 returned to the turf. He has a fitness edge over his two main market rivals and is drawn well in stall two with Josephine Gordon maintaining the partnership here. With a strong pace likely on the cards, he looks like the most solid option to come good of those towards the top of the betting and is Josephine’s only ride on the card too.

17.05 Southwell

In the finale at Southwell, it could pay to side with GETTHEPOT (best price 13-2), who’s only a couple of pounds higher than when bolting up in this grade at Ayr last spring. He went on to finish runner-up in a pair of class four events off marks of 105 and 106, including over C&D and has shaped promisingly in both starts this year, one of those being on stable debut last time. He has undergone wind surgery since last spotted and, with Max Kendrick doing the steering, the seven-year-old makes plenty of appeal dropped into this grade which is well within his capabilities on the balance of his form if putting his best foot forward.
