PEPPER STREAK (best price 11-4) wasn’t able to get her head in front when trained in Ireland but she finished in the top four in all five of them, displaying promise, and concluded her time with connections when a neck second to Rhythm And Zain, who’s rated 85. She made her reappearance/stable debut for Adrian Nicholls back in February at Newcastle and did it the hard way from the front to deservedly open her account in what was her first assignment in the UK. She wasn’t at her best that day but she was entitled to have needed the outing and strip fitter given it was her first run in four months. This is slightly tougher but she’s evidently got loads of speed and, with improvement to come, she’s fancied to make a bold bid and give Lovely Mana plenty to think about.

A very competitive event despite only the seven runners which limits this to just two places but I will give one more chance to the George Baker-trained DAWAAM (best price 4-1) who’s turn should be near. The six-year-old was decent when trained by Owen Burrows, in which he scored four times, including twice at Chelmsford off marks of 95 and 99. He also ran a very big race to finish fourth in the John Smith’s Cup at York off a mark of 97, which is solid form. He debuted for George Baker at Wolverhampton on his first start for six months and came close to scoring, where he travelled well towards the front, only to be collared inside the final 100 yards. He might not be the most reliable when it comes down to a battle given his habitual high head carriage under pressure but he’s certainly well-treated off 93 and if Pat Cosgrave, who has his only ride on the card, can smuggle him into the contest at the furlong pole with clear daylight, he might have too much pace for these in the latter stages.
