Steve Ryder is back with three tips for today's racing.
15:30 Nottingham
The Mick Appleby trained KHATWAH (best priced at 9/4) bolted up at Doncaster on Saturday in first-time cheekpieces and should prove hard to beat under a 5lb penalty. The four-year-old filly had previously completed a hat-trick of wins on the AW earlier this year before getting off the mark on turf last time at Doncaster.
Khatwah won easily by 4 ¼ lengths in first time cheekpieces beating the 11/10 favourite Spirit Of The Bay easily into second. That was her first run over a mile and she looked to relish that step up in trip so she is expected to prove hard to beat under a 5lb penalty.
16:15 Punchestown
Willie Mullins has won this race a record eight times including with the likes of Hurricane Fly, Faugheen, Douvan and Klassical Dream and he holds strong claims with both Sir Gerhard and DYSART DYNAMO (best priced at 2/1). Sir Gerhard looks a worthy favourite following his two Grade 1 victories this season but I prefer the chances of his stablemate Dysart Dynamo at the prices. The six-year-old lost his unbeaten record when falling in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival but prior to that he had looked impressive winning both of his starts over hurdles by 19 lengths including the Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle over this course and distance.
Dysart Dynamo still hadn’t been asked a question when falling three out at Cheltenham and despite Paul Townend electing to ride Sir Gerhard in this race, I do expect him to prove hard to beat back at a track that will suit his bold front running tactics.
17:25 Punchestown
CHACUN POUR SOI (best priced at 13/8) has form figures of 125335U outside of Ireland in comparison to form figures of 11211111 in Ireland including two wins at the Punchestown Festival so I expect him to prove hard to beat back at this track. The ten-year-old is a six-time Grade 1 winner who recorded an impressive 5 ½ length defeat of Allaho in this race last season. He bounced back from a below-par reappearance run at Sandown in the Tingle Creek to win the Dublin Chase at Leopardstown by 12 lengths before unseating Patrick Mullins half way through the Champion Chase at Cheltenham.
Paul Townend once again rides Champion Chase winner Energumene but I do feel his stablemate is the bet at current prices. Chacun Pour Soi looks a completely different horse in Ireland than when travelling so that gives him a good chance of beating his stablemate in what looks a match race.
