CRISPY CAT (best price 4/1) showed a lot of speed and a good attitude to make a winning debut at Cork on debut and won with more in hand than the half a length margin indicated at the line. He was ridden very confidently throughout Leigh Roche, who was required to only draw the whip once in which this colt responded with immediate effect to see off a useful bunch. He’s up in grade and takes on two other winning debutants but he looks a promising individual and his experience of the turf, which can’t be said about his two nearest rivals, could be the difference in the latter stages of this interesting listed contest.

GET IT (best price 7/2) has to concede weight to the remainder on his return but his trainer, Clive Cox, has a brilliant strike-rate at this course (25%) and his sole runner on the card has a fair chance of success on seasonal debut dropping down in grade.

This four-year-old, by Twilight Son, was highly tried as a two-year-old, in which he contested the Windsor Castle on just his second career start and he fared well to take fourth. He disappointed in the Super Sprint at Newbury when sent off just 4/1 but got off the mark in this grade at Wolverhampton and ran respectively in four starts since in either class two or class three events. An eight-month absence shouldn’t be a concern as he won first-time-out last season and drops down a couple of classes since he was last spotted. While I acknowledge that he’s up against some course specialists, he’s the best horse in the race and should make a bold bid off top-weight from an attractive mark of 87.

KYLIE RULES (best price 6/1) loves it around here, who’s a four-time course winner, all of which have been in either class four or five events off marks of 60 twice, 71 and 74. She’s dropped into a class six at her favourite course for the first time off a career-low mark of 50 and wasn’t discredited when sixth at Redcar last-time-out on her reappearance from two-pound higher.

Ideally, I would have liked to have seen her drawn lower than ten but she’s astonishingly 31Ib below her last winning mark and has proven to be more than effective off marks in the 80’s in better events than this. Having just her third career start at this level with conditions, all the winning course form in her inventory and a dangerous-looking mark in her favour, she’s the standout each-way bet of the day, who also has the ammunition to gain a sixth course victory if the wide draw doesn’t hinder her chances.

KRATOS (best price 7/2) was desperately unfortunate not to come away with victory over course-and-distance last time, where he was caught in a pocket down the inside rail before being pulled wide which led to a strong late challenge and just be denied. He’s five-pound better off with the winner so the form should be turned around here and Roger Varian has an excellent record with runners at this venue. I think he’s got an outstanding chance of going one place better in a race full of runners who arrive out of form.
