Architect Tips is back with three tips for today's racing including a NAP at Newcastle.
15:10 Beverley
TAR HEEL (best price 14/1) has only won once in his career to date which is hardly inspiring but he was rated as high as 90 when trained in Ireland and shaped quite well on his return three weeks ago when staying on strongly in the latter stages to be sixth of ten at Catterick. He’s been dropped another 3Ib which is essential and David Allan takes over in the saddle.
On the face of it, he comes with risks attached, but he’s proven to be competitive off higher marks beforehand and with fitness now guaranteed, Tim Easterby’s charge is worth an each-way interest off his basement mark at this level.
15:40 Beverley
JACKAMUNDO (best price 14/1) is not often seen in this grade and that’s based upon the fact that he’s gone close numerous times in better events off much stiffer marks. Most of his form has been over further so it’s interesting to see his trainer persevere with him over a mile here off a career-low mark. He’s 18Ib below his last winning mark and is drawn well in stall six and this will be only his third career start in this grade.
His latest two placed efforts suggest his turn might be near and in the hope he’s ridden a bit more prominently than usually the case dropping back in distance, Harrison Shaw might be able to get his head in front off this exploitable mark if things fall into place.
18:30 Newcastle
The Chris Wall-trained MANGO BOY (NAP) (best price 4/1) returned an odds-on beaten favourite at Yarmouth on handicap debut when last spotted but he raced far too keenly in the early stages and those expenses told late on as weakened into fifth. However, all the four horses who were in front of him that day are now rated 90+ so the form is strong in the context of this race, especially now that he drops in grade against horses rated no higher than 80. He hasn’t got any experience of Newcastle yet but he handled the all-weather at Kempton on just his second career start very well, in which he finished third behind two horses now rated 94 and 92.
He has displayed promise on starts so far and is bred to be very useful too being related to Group winners so while he’s making his seasonal debut and will improve plenty for it, I’ll be surprised if an initial mark of 77 is the ceiling of his ability. In conclusion, trainer Chris Wall has an excellent strike-rate here with limited runners (two-from-six) and Jack Mitchell is riding well these past two weeks (22%) so in the hope he acts on the surface, I’m hopeful this gelding by New Bay will sparkle and fulfil his early potential this evening.
