Following a 7/4 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder has three selections for today's action.
14:25 York
The Richard Fahey trained MR LUPTON (best priced at 16/1) looks very unappealing at first glance with form figures of 00008 but there are reasons to think that he will outrun his odds in this race back at York. The nine-year-old boasts an enviable record of four wins and a place from eleven runs at York which is a great record for a horse who is only 10/59 in his career.
Mr Lupton won this race last season off a mark of 101 so he is now looking well handicapped off a mark of 98 for the race this year. His other victories at this track have come off marks of 102, 103 and 105 so he looks worth chancing back at York with Paul Hanagan back on board and up to seven places on offer.
15:00 York
This looks an open renewal of the Duke Of York Stakes this season and I am willing to take a chance on EMARAATY ANNA (best priced at 12/1) despite a couple of below par runs in Meydan this year. The Kevin Ryan trained six-year-old won the Gimcrack Stakes over this course and distance in 2018 before running well to finish a close 2nd in the Nunthorpe Stakes over 5f last year.
Emaraaty Anna went on to finish five lengths behind Golden Pal in the Breeders Cup before disappointing on both of his starts in Meydan (one run excused with mucus in his lungs) since. He shoulders a 5lb penalty for his success in the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock last season but he is top rated so he should still give a good account with up to four places on offer.
17:30 Bath
The Ronald Harris trained EQUALLY FAST (best priced at 10/1) has a solid record at Bath with form figures of 2251326 at the track and looks overpriced based on his recent form with the favourite Symbol Of Hope. That rival finished only a nose ahead of Equally Fast at Chepstow 13 days ago in receipt of 3lbs but now has to concede 5lbs following victory at Bath last week.
That means Equally Fast gets an 8lb swing in the weights with the short priced favourite and the ten-year-old therefore looks overpriced for this race with David Probert back on board.
