LAST MISSION (best price 16/1) has run perfectly respectably on his two previous visits to today’s track and with his latest effort coming via a very strongly run race for the grade over the same C&D, a chance is taken on James Evans’ gelding springing a bit of a surprise.

Third, on his first start at the Dunstall Park venue over seven furlongs back in December, a four-month gap ensued until he made his return visit and on the evidence of how he performed 20 days ago, it’s clear the tapeta surface suits him well. Towards the rear early as the pace developed rather quickly, the son of Invincible Spirit still had plenty on his plate as the field turned for home, but he soon got his skates on and chased down the main players and even though he didn’t manage to land a blow, he came home too really good effect.

A good overall speed figure along with an above-average circuit time for a horse rated in the 60’s all point towards his chances here this afternoon if he can run to a similar level, and at his double-figure morning quotes, he makes plenty of each-way appeal with many firms offering four places.

ASK PADDINGTON’s (NAP) (best price 7/2) form had nosedived in big way until bouncing back to his best at Hexham last time out and now with that renewed vigour in his system, he can go and reclaim former glories at a track where he ran well on his only previous visit.

A four-time winner over hurdles, Rebecca Menzies’ gelding had rather lost his way since the heady heights of the 2018/19 campaign, but it hasn’t been all bad news along the way, as another victory at Hexham in the interim testifies. Additionally, he was also a decent runner-up to the useful Cauis Marcius over today’s C&D just short of a year ago, so it’s clear that he hasn’t totally gone at the game. His latest effort, though, is the biggest reason why he’s such a strong contender here today, as the time figure from the race at the Northumberland venue was extremely good for the grade.

The way he travelled into contention before pushing the favourite, Vintage Fizz, hard all the way to the line suggests he’s in a decent shape at present and with all his four victories coming in relatively small fields, the son of Ask makes plenty of sense as a decent betting proposition at the morning odds.

GLORIOUS CHARMER (best price 15/2) has struck up a decent report with today’s track in recent times and arriving here off the back of another convincing C&D victory, Michael Herrington’s gelding has solid claims in his bid to notch to register win number three.

First victorious at the Dunstall Park venue back in February, in a few in and out performances followed, but he bounced back to his very best 20 days ago when coming with his usually storming run to claim the prize late on. Equalling his PB on the clock that day, he now has a body of work on the numbers to suggest he’s likely to be another major factor if running to a similar level and at the morning odds, he makes for very solid each-way material.
