SISTERANDBROTHER (best price 5/4) and Blue Hero fought out the finish here two weeks ago when the former edged the verdict by a neck but there’s every chance he has more to offer for new trainer Milton Harris and is strongly fancied to confirm that form with that seasonal/stable debut under his belt. He travelled strongly last time and while Blue Hero managed to get upsides inside the final furlong, he rallied to score with a bit to spare at the finish. He’s actually better off the second here too, as his apprentice’s allowance negates his rise in the weights. The application of a first-time hood should help him settle and the combination of this return to this longer trip and smaller field can see Milton Harris’ new recruit make it two-from-two for the campaign in the opener.

PORTELET BAY (best price 11/2) was below his best when only third here last time but he’s dipped to a mark that’s 3Ib below his last winning mark which came over track and trip. This is slightly easier than last time, he’s drawn well in stall five and the form of his last success was given a major boost when the second, Ruby Cottage, defied a mark of 69 when last spotted. On the evidence of that piece of form, David Evans’ charge is well-treated here off 58 and if the blinkers have a positive effect, he could easily win this event.

JANAAT (best price 14/1) wasn’t seen to best effect last-time-out when only fourth but that was her first start in four months so she’s sure to come on for that reappearance and looks to have been let in lightly on turf debut. She seems better suited to positive tactics as she’s got lots of early pace and this will be her first try in a class six event in which she is bound to find a lot easier. A good draw in stall three is beneficial and with this race looking as though it’s been a bit of a plan by her shrewd handler, she could make a bold effort at a decent price.

14:41 Bangor

We go to Bangor where my best bet of the day, TIP TOP TONTO (NAP) (best price 5/2), looks to have been found a great opportunity to open his account in the Magners Maiden Hurdle.

This six-year-old has shown a bit of promise in three bumpers before taking a major step forward on his second hurdles start to finish third earlier this month. He would have probably gone close without being hampered at the last hurdle last time in which he rallied late to be nearest the finish. Trainer Richard Newland has an excellent 20% strike-rate at this course too, which cannot go unnoticed, and he sends just this one runner to today’s fixture.

Moreover, Sam Twiston-Davies travels to the course for his only ride on the card and the combination of jockey and trainer have enjoyed plenty of success together in the last few years. With improvement to come, this son of Milan can make the trip down to Wales worthwhile for owners Foxtrot Racing by getting on the scoresheet.
