MILLYUPDAHILLY (best price 10-1) ran with a good deal of encouragement on her first start at Fairyhouse nine days ago and granted just normal improvement, she’s fancied to take much higher rank here this afternoon.

Sent off 125-1 at the Co Meath venue, an extra nought would have been added to those odds after she was slowly away and there was never at any point when she would have traded under 100-1. That said, considering where she was turning from home and where she ultimately finished, her effort deserves quite a bit of praise, so it’s clear the engine and ability are there once she learns how to race. Whether she has the sufficient experience to handle today’s track is a moot point, but either way, at her early morning quotes, she’s worth a small each-way interest to find out.

SPANISH STAR (best price 6-1) isn’t the most straightforward of characters - often needed to be delivered to a nicety late on – but, as those tactics have allowed him to run some of his best races over today’s course, Pat Chaming’s gelding can once again go well at the Sussex venue.

A dual winner last season, including one over today’s C&D, the son of Requinto has taken a few runs just to find top stride this term, but on the evidence of his effort here 16 days ago, he looks poised to strike. Held up towards the rear of a competitive seven-runner affair, the seven-year-old travelled up smoothly to hold every chance at the cutaway, but he couldn’t quite sustain him challenge all the way to the line and he ended up having to settle for an admirable third. Although he does stay seven, he’s always looked more comfortable over a furlong shorter and with David Probert back on board seen as a massive positive, his form figures here of 4421313 are likely to be enhanced – even more so if the track soaks up any further rain during the day.

Another to make plenty of appeal at the morning odds given her liking for today’s track is LOVELY BREEZE (best price 5-1) and she’s also worth a small interest to see whether she can uphold his stats of 212 when racing at the Sussex venue. Runner-up to Spanish Star when she last visited towards the backend of last season, Hugo Palmer’s filly was previous victorious three months earlier when coming through strongly from the back of the field to score with a bit in hand. Clearly well suited by the vagaries and undulations of the Downs, the daughter of Sepoy looks on a tempting mark when taking into account the services of crack apprentice, Harry Davies.

ORIENTAL ART (best price 4-1) shaped as though he was badly in need of the run on his seasonal bow at Newbury last time out and, having run well on his only previous visit to today’s track, his return trip to the Sussex venue can reap maximum rewards.

Gelded and having his first run for 262 days, the son of Archipenko was held up right out the back of the field at the Berkshire venue and even though he looked mildly threatening over two furlongs

out, he ultimately failed to finish off his race as well as anticipated. That said, given the overall gallop set over 1m4f was likely to test him to the limit, his performance probably wasn’t quite as bad as first feared and, with subsequent form of the race in question working out remarkably well since, he can be another alongside the likes of Time Interval, Charlie Arthur and Pride Of Nepal who goes on to score next time.
