TRAILBLAZER (best price 9/2) has run with a good degree of encouragement on both his starts to date and with the distinct likelihood that he would have garnered enough knowledge out of each performance to know a good deal more this time around, William Muir & Chris Grassick’s colt is strongly fancied to make his presence felt in what looks an average maiden at best.

Promising without threatening the judge in a good Newbury maiden on his debut, the son of Dark Angel was dipped into slightly calmer waters at Chepstow next time and as it turned out, he ended up running with a good deal of credit. Up with the pace from an early stage, he only succumbed to the winner and the well-touted Tarrabb in the final furlong and with the speed figure hinting it was a decent race of its kind, he clearly took a huge step forward from his initial outing. Drawn one and, as a result likely to be handy from an early stage, this honest, galloping-type should give a good account.

PETER THE GREAT (NAP) (best price 9/4) has had the misfortune to bump into two progressive horses from the King Power set-up on his last two starts and with one of those efforts coming here in fast time on his latest outing, a repeat of something similar on his return visit should see John & Thady Gosden’s gelding put up a bold bid to go one place better.

Setting out to make all the running at the Essex track, the son of New Approach seemed to have matters in hand with two furlongs to run, but as it turned out, he couldn’t quite press home his advantage and he was gunned down by the late thrust of Greatgadian close home. That said, he did produce a very creditable speed figure in defeat and with the blinkers on for the first seen as an extra tool to help make him concentrate in the job at hand, the lightly-raced four-year-old can hopefully run the sting out of his five rivals.
