After several near misses at Pontefract yesterday, Architect Tips is back with three tips for today's action at Southwell and Chepstow.
15:30 Southwell
It’s been a while since LEMON T (best price 16/1) last tasted success, but the last time he did it was in a similar grade event over course-and-distance, and that was off a five-pounds higher mark too.
He didn’t shape too badly when 5th back here two weeks ago in a better race in first-time blinkers and has also gone well twice here on other occasions off much higher marks (3rd off 104 and fourth off 105) in a pair of class four events and will appreciate the ease in grade to a class five off a much reduced mark.
Ruth Jefferson’s nine-year-old is one of the most well-treated horses in this race so, if he can reproduce the sort of form he showed here three times last year, he could easily make his presence felt off a career-low mark with conditions right up his street and with four places generally available.
15:45 Chepstow
LAND OF EAGLES (NAP) best price 11/8) looked in need of his stable debut for the in-form George Boughey team at Beverley when fourth, as that was his first start for eight months and he did very little wrong when keeping on well to finish second at Yarmouth last time, where he might have won with a clear passage.
He had previously ran a solid race to finish a close-up fourth next time, in which he was right behind subsequent Group 3 winner Hannibal Barca. He clearly has loads of ability based upon that display and, now that he drops in grade off only a pound higher mark, with the step up in trip sure to suit, he can decisively open his account under David Probert.
16:00 Southwell
Stuart Edmunds’ ADDOSH (best price 11/8) looks a solid bet to regain the winning thread here given she brings the best hurdles form to the race.
She won a second class two event back in September and despite failing to complete in her next three starts, where she was in contention in Listed/Grade events, she bounced back to take a second hurdles success when taking a juvenile event at Huntingdon in March and backed that up with two placed efforts since.
She gets into this race off the same mark despite conceding weight and the form of her latest third was strongly advertised when the winner, Hurricane Ali, won at Aintree next time. She’s clear of these on official ratings and, providing she keeps her mind on the task ahead, this looks a good opportunity for her to gain a third success over hurdles.
