Leg 1 Selections: Dellboy Trotter

The most persuasive choice for leg one has to be the in-form DELLBOY TROTTER, who has developed a good partnership with this jockey, in which the pair have won twice over C&D and another rise in the weights might not prevent him from winning this race.

He has gone up nine-pounds as a result but the manner in which he quickened away last time suggests he could complete the hat-trick. This is another weak race and it’s difficult to see him out of the top three at the very least in the opener.

Leg 2 Selections: Last Of A Legend

In leg two, LAST OF A LEGEND was a good second on debut in a bumper at Aintree and while she’s not yet matched that form since, her form has gradually got better over hurdles and her latest second was a decent effort.

This is a drop in grade, so she could easily go one better with more to come. Rocked Up is a danger but Harry Fry’s mare has the potential to be better than these and should therefore go very well here.

Leg 3 Selections: Casamari Abbey, Barest Of Margins

CASAMARI ABBEY is well-treated on his previous Irish form and has put together two solid efforts in defeat the last times, including when second at Cartmel a week ago. He’s dropped in grade off the same mark here, so has to be considered.

BAREST OF MARGINS is related to some good horses and is of strong interest on chase/handicap debut on the back of four promising efforts in defeat. With the scope to surpass this mark in this sphere, he’s feared most off top-weight.

Leg 4 Selections: Who’s The Guv’nor, Koi Dodville

WHO’S THE GUV’NOR won well over this C&D last month and while that form is only modest in the context of this race, he should go well off an eight-pounds higher mark and with Brian Hughes in the saddle again.

KOI DODVILLE has been competing in stronger events than this since finishing second to a 122-rated individual which is good form. He has finished last the last two times but should develop into a useful chaser and has been given a lenient mark of 113 here.

Leg 5 Selections: One For Billy, Scheu Time

ONE FOR BILLY is making up for lost time for connections, who’s won two of his last three starts and two of his rivals who were in behind him the last day have won since. With Tristan Durrell back in the plate, he can go close off his 5Ib higher mark.

SCHEU TIME is probably a better hurdler but he was a good fourth in a Listed event at Cheltenham back in November and is lurking on a dangerous mark over the bigger fences. His trainer runs two in this race, but it’s this nine-year-old who earns the second vote for leg five.

Leg 6 Selections: Broomfield Burg

Nicky Henderson’s BROOMFIELD BURG is clearly quirky but is equally talented and shaped a lot better than the beaten margin indicated when 6th in a highly-competitive Grade Three handicap at Aintree when last spotted.

That was his first try over this trip and he stayed on strongly late into the race. Sent off favourite for the Betfair Hurdle back in February, in which he finished 7th, he will find this a lot easier and should outclass his four rivals if he settles in a first-time hood.
