Leg 1 Selections: Motown Lake, Mackie Dee

An open-looking race for leg one. Christian Williams’ MOTOWN LAKE put in a scruffy round of jumping when only third at Hexham but he’s better than that and dod win comfortably on his penultimate start. He should figure in this weak contest, while MACKIE DEE has been in really good form already this year and has to be respected back over the larger obstacles off a nice mark for the Armson team.

Leg 2 Selections: Electron Bleu, Pens Man

ELECTRON BLEU has been really disappointing of late and didn’t show much encouragement on his return from a four month break at Worcester last time. However, he reached the frame three times last year off marks in the 120s over hurdles, so if he’s able to rediscover his best form, he should pose a threat off a career-low mark of 105. PENS MAN jumped poorly last time but still came within a neck of victory and, with a polished round here, he could go one better.

Leg 3 Selections: Diablo De Rouhet, Topofthecotswolds

Nicky Henderson’s DIABLO DE ROUHET was a very progressive hurdler and chaser a few years ago and shaped well on his return from two and a half years on the sidelines when sixth in a competitive Hurdle event in May. Off a two pound lower mark back over fences, he’s definitely one for the shortlist. His main danger could be TOPOFTHECOTSWOLDS who got the better of a useful sort last-time-out and should make a bold effort from the front.

Leg 4 Selections: Vienna Girl

VIENNA GIRL was sent off 125/1 for her debut at this course last time but that didn’t stop her running a blinder to finish runner-up to an odds-on favourite. That form looks solid in the context that’s this event and, with that experience to draw upon, she should be more than capable of getting herself into the picture here. This daughter of Golden Horn is the only representative for leg four.

Leg 5 Selections: Trolley Boy

TROLLEY BOY made a promising rules debut when second back in October and made no mistake at Newcastle next time, when getting the better of the argument with Iceman Dennis. I can envisage him being an even better hurdler and he’s subsequently joined a top yard ahead of his debut in this sphere. He should take a bit of beating with a good round of jumping in this race. Bathiva is the obvious threat but he’s more exposed than the former.

Leg 6 Selections: Danzini

DANZINI has been on the premises in all five starts in handicaps and hasn’t been beaten far in finishing second the last two times. She gets into this race off the same mark and Gavin Sheehan has been booked to ride which is good news. Whether his mount can win this race or not, I’m not sure, but it would be a bit of a surprise if she weren’t able to at least reach the frame in leg six.
