Architect Tips continues his new daily Tote Placepot tips column with selections for the first six races at Newmarket.
17:36 Newmarket
Selections: Pureness, Cloudbreaker
A tricky juvenile fillies’ event but the George Boughey-trained PURENESS has ran to a useful level in both her starts to date and sets a good standard on her latest second at Carlisle, where she looked a little unlucky not to finish closer. With more to offer over this longer trip, she could make amends under Ryan Moore here.
Charlie Fellowes’ CLOUDBREAKER didn’t look short of ability when fifth of 12 on debut at Newbury, ridden quite tentatively under the circumstances. She is likely to take a step forward from that outing and could get involved here with Harry Davies booked to ride, who takes off a valuable three pounds.
18:10 Newmarket
Selections: Micks Dream
I really like the claims of MICKS DREAM for leg two, who finished his race very strongly at Salisbury on his return in April to finish a half-a-length second. He probably would have won without being bumped at the start but, with that run under his belt, he’s sure to go close in this race. Ryan Moore has been booked to ride and Roger Teal has his team in pretty good form, so he’s the only choice in this race.
18:40 Newmarket
Selections: Sense Of Wisdom
Charlie Appleby’s SENSE OF WISDOM displayed greenness on debut and while his rider even dropped his whip a furlong from the finish, that didn’t stop him from winning over course-and-distance, in which he got the better of stablemate First Ruler. The runner-up won next-time-out on handicap debut off a mark of 93, so the form has lots of substance. Despite carrying a penalty, he can make it two-from-two in his career with Harry Davies retained for the ride, who offsets his usual five pounds.
19:10 Newmarket
Selections: Pons Aelius
In leg four, Mark Johnston’s PONS AELIUS, who has produced three consecutive runner-up efforts of late, has strong claims of going one better off bottom-weight. He only went down a head at Hamilton last time and is due to go up three pounds from the weekend, so this looks a nice bit of placing by his handler. Off the same mark as last time with David Egan in the saddle, and being only a pound higher than when bolting up at Wolverhampton back in March, he looks ready to gain a third and first career success on the turf.
19:40 Newmarket
Selections: Voodoo Queen
Roger Varian’s VOODOO QUEEN showed lots of potential and promise in a couple of outings last year and made no mistake on her return to action on the other course here in April, where she stayed on strongly to beat some useful types with a bit to spare. The runner-up, Elegant Verse, has let the form down since, but this daughter of Frankel looks well-handicapped off a mark of 87 and could take some beating.
20:10 Newmarket
Selections: Origintrail, Hellomydarlin
ORIGINTRAIL has been kept exclusively to six furlongs and that has resulted with two wins and two seconds from five starts. She ran well over course-and-distance last time and now two pounds better off with Al Simmo, she could gain revenge on these terms.
HELLOMYDARLIN is a useful filly on her day and was a good third in a Listed event last time. She has placed numerous times at that level and her second to Flotus looks the best form on offer by a long stretch. Ryan Moore has been booked to ride and his presence should see this filly go close dropped into this class.
