Architect Tips continues his new daily Tote Placepot tips column with selections for the first six races at Newmarket.

Leg 1 Selections: Highbank, Dartman
The opener is a difficult race to assess but Charlie Appleby has taken the last two renewals of this race and there’s every chance HIGHBANK can make it three. This son of Kingman was an expensive yearling and he has a lovely pedigree. He might be the yard’s second string according to jockey bookings, but Jack Mitchell is a good rider and if his mount is ready first-time-out, he’s a big player. DARTMAN is also nicely bred and given how well Brian Meehan has done with his debutantes in the past, this son of Expert Eye cannot be discounted.

Leg 2 Selections: Dubai Love
The way to go in this race could be with DUBAI LOVE, who ran well when seventh in the Kensington Palace at Royal Ascot, ran well when third in a Listed event last time, as well as when sixth in the Thirsk Hunt Cup. She made the frame multiple times in Group company in Dubai and was also third at Royal Ascot two years ago in the Sandringham. Despite her big weight, she’s the best horse in the race and can capitalise on this ease in grade and open her account for the year under Marco Ghiani.

Leg 3 Selections: Francesco Clemente
It’s very difficult to look beyond the John Gosden-trained FRANCESCO CLEMENTE, who puts his tall reputation on the line here. He is two-from-two in his career and had previously overcome inexperience to beat subsequent Royal Ascot winner Secret State in the Wood Ditton at Newmarket on debut. He landed minor odds with the minimum of fuss nine weeks ago when defying a penalty and while this is another rise in grade, this Group One entrant can continue his rise through the ranks and remain unbeaten here against his reliable but equally exposed rivals.

Leg 4 Selections: Lethal Levi, Witch Hunter
Karl Burke’s LETHAL LEVI has been brilliantly campaigned by his trainer and produced another career-best performance when dismantling a good large-field from the front over course-and-distance at the July meeting. He’s off another career-high mark but his tough attitude and professionalism should see him make another bold bid to follow-up here. WITCH HUNTER was behind the former last time but had a troublesome passage and shouldn’t be underestimated here. He’s a classy sort, who’s held in high regard by his handler, and should finish closer to the former this time round.

Leg 5 Selections: Bergerac
Kevin Ryan’s BERGERAC has outstanding claims in the penultimate leg on today’s pool. The four-year-old ran a really good race when third at Pontefract last time and having placed three times off a mark of 89 this year, and his trainer has found him a good opportunity to score here off two pounds lower. Furthermore, he’s one pound lower than when winning at York last year and has been left on the same mark of 87 as last time. With most of his efforts in defeat this year already working out strongly, Neil Callan can galvanise him to success in this lower-graded contest.

Leg 6 Selections: Dandy’s Derriere, Present Moment
DANDY’S DERRIERE looked promising as a two-year-old, in which he chased home the 110-rated New Mandate. He wasn’t able to build on that promise afterwards but turned in an eye-catching effort when second at Windsor last time. With more to come on just his third start over this distance, he could be too good for these. PRESENT MOMENT has been highly tried since scoring at Redcar, in which she contested a Listed event and the Sandringham at Royal Ascot. She was well beaten last time but is handicapped to have a say in the outcome if able to bounce back.
