Leg 1 Selections: Mellow Magic, Super Superjack, Hydroplane

The Andrew Balding-trained MELLOW MAGIC is developing into a useful stayer and has only finished outside the frame once in thirteen starts. She has continued his good form throughout this year and has taken her form up another notch since going up in trip to two miles, with four consecutive placed efforts. With her course record reading 223 and this extra distance worth exploring, she has an excellent chance. SUPER SUPERJACK won on his only previous visit here and has only been out of the frame twice in fourteen starts on the turf. His form over 1m7f or further reads 12112 and the form of his close second at York reads well. He is definite shortlist material here. HYDROPLANE got back to winning ways at Chester last time and while he has been hit with a 6 lb rise for that easy success, he should remain competitive for a trainer who has won this three times in the past.

Leg 2 Selections: Bayside Boy

The St James’s Palace Stakes form is continuing to work out strongly and while he was just behind Berkshire Shadow at the finish, there’s no doubt BAYSIDE BOY would have been in front of him with a clear passage that dat. Roger Varian’s charge was a classy two-year-old last term, in which he won a Group Two and was twice third in Group 1 events. With Ryan Moore booked to ride and all of the form he has displayed suggesting he’s a better horse than his two nearest market rivals, he should flourish in this grade and is therefore handed quite a confident vote to get back to winning ways here.

Leg 3 Selections: Blue For You, Rebel Territory

David O’Meara saddles a number of runners in this race but Danny Tudhope has stuck with BLUE FOR YOU, who has gone close on his last three starts off big weights and is eligible to compete off the same mark as when narrowly denied at York on his penultimate start. He should have no trouble with the return to a mile and couldn’t be drawn any better in stall 1=one. He should enjoy the run of this race and, if doing so, he’s got outstanding claims of taking the spoils. I fear REBEL TERRITORY though, who’s been saved for this race and won at this meeting twelve months ago. He made it four wins from his last five starts in May and has already beaten Noble Dynasty too. He is another to have been drawn well in stall nine and I can’t see this mark being the ceiling of his ability.

Leg 4 Selections: Equilateral, Clarendon House

Charlie Hills has a great record in this race given Battaash won four of the last five renewals and he’s got a good chance with EQUILATERAL isn’t ideally drawn in stall 1, but neither are his two main market rivals and it’s likely Kieran Shoemark will drop him in again as there’s bound to be loads of pace on offer. I have no doubt he’s the best horse in the race and he would have beaten both Raasel and Mitbaahy comfortably at Sandown on his penultimate start, as he was travelling better then both but couldn’t find a gap and had his momentum halted twice before flying home. I think this race is absolutely tailor-made for him. CLARENDON HOUSE was below form in France last time but that’s not the first time he’s let down his supporters in that country and he’s better judged on his form over here, especially his second here back in May. He was beaten just a head over track and trip by Raasel when giving the winner five pounds and meets that rival off level weights this time round. He could go well at large odds.

Leg 5 Selections: Rebel’s Romance, Fancy Man

REBEL’S ROMANCE ended his time in Dubai on a rather disappointing note but he made an excellent turf debut when stepped up to a mile and four furlongs at Newmarket last month. He comfortably dispatched stablemate Kemari with lots to spare, which took his record in the UK to three-from-three. Given that latest display, he looks back to his best and having been chosen by William Buick over the other two runners from this yard, he’s the one to beat. Richard Hannon’s FANCY MAN was unfortunate not to finish closer than his creditable fifth off top-weight in the Old Newton Cup last time and returns to better ground with this trip looking more suitable. He is largely consistent for connections and rates the most solid choice aside from the favourite in this race.

Leg 6 Selections: Paddy’s Day, Rumstar

Charlie Hills’ PADDY’S DAY made a winning introduction to his career at Windsor in May, where he travelled well on the front end and quickened up stylishly to score with more in hand the margin indicated. This is a huge drop in grade and he’s drawn nicely in stall twelve this time round, so he could be extremely competitive here. At a big price, do not rule out RUMSTAR who has seemingly been overlooked in this contest at double-figure odds. He was narrowly denied on debut before beating a subsequent winner at Bath and has shaped nicely in finishing third and fourth in two starts in Listed company since. If connections have ironed out his quirks, he has the ability to go well.
