Leg 1 Selections: Classic, The Foxes

CLASSIC holds some big entries at such an early stage of his career and shaped with lots of promise when fourth on debut at Newbury, where he did well to only be beaten around a length. He was slow into stride, was denied a clear run over a furlong out but stayed on strongly in the closing stages. With more to come, he’s a player. THE FOXES ran well when fourth in an above-average maiden on debut and while he was well beaten in the Chesham at Royal Ascot, he should do a lot better in this easier assignment.

Leg 2 Selections: Lethal Levi, Treacherous

Karl Burke’s LETHAL LEVI has taken his form to another level this season and has an excellent chance to complete a hat-trick as he somehow finds himself a pound lower than when winning at Newmarket again a week ago. He’s a tough horse, who will be hard to pass and is the one to beat. TREACHEROUS has excellent course form though, who will be suited to the strong pace, and is three pounds lower than when winning this race easily two years ago. He ran well on his penultimate start at Windsor when a slightly unlucky third and, off the same mark, he’s dangerous to discount at large odds.

Leg 3 Selections: Themaxwecan, Bascule, Boss Power

A wide-open stayers’ event but Mark Johnston has an excellent record in this and there’s every possibility THEMAXWECAN will bounce back to form off a reduced mark. Both of his wins at this course, over two miles, have been off higher marks and has shaped better then the result suggested the last two times. He’s a strong stayer, loves this ground, loves this course and is well-treated. Of Johnson’s trio, he’s the one I like. BASCULE has won his last four starts on the Flat and while his hurdling debut didn’t go to plan, Richard Hughes has definitely trained him for this race since. He could go very well, while BOSS POWER has caught the eye on his last two starts on the turf and is dangerous to ignore off a nice-looking mark with Harry Davies booked to ride.

Leg 4 Selections: Emily Dickinson, Urban Artist

EMILY DICKINSON shaped as though still in good form when fourth in the Irish Oaks two weeks ago, where she would have finished closer without being slightly hampered. She was unlucky not to collect a Group Three on her penultimate start but off a low weight here with Ryan Moore in the saddle, she’s a major contender. Hughes Morrison’s URBAN ARTIST likes it here and while she would ideally prefer softer ground, she has the form in the book to play a leading role.

Leg 5 Selections: Chil Chil, Great Ambassador

I have a strong opinion on at least four runners for the Stewards’ Cup but I will stick with the two with the first being CHIL CHIL. She has an excellent record under similar conditions and connections have booked Harry Davies to ride who offsets five-pounds. She was third in a Group One last year and appears to be coming to the boil at the right time. From a good draw in stall 11, she should go well for her in-form handler. GREAT AMBASSADOR was a place in front of the former last time and is another to be drawn well in stall 12. He ran very well in the Ayr Gold Cup last year and could improve on his third in this race from twelve months ago.

Leg 6 Selections: Koy Koy

This is really competitive and I found it difficult trying to solve this race but KOY KOY shaped well in the Britannia at Royal Ascot and made a stable winning debut at Newmarket two weeks ago when justifying favouritism, showing a good attitude in the closing stages. Off only a two pounds higher mark dropped back in distance with Ryan Moore in the saddle, this progressive three-year-old should make a bold bid in leg six.
