Leg 1 Selections: Desert Team

The Simon and Ed Crisford-trained DESERT TEAM scored for the third time this year when showing a good attitude and pace to see off her two rivals at Newmarket last time. The two she beat are rated 84 and 85, so this is a lot easier, as she tackles lower rated opponents. With Harry Burns in the saddle again, who offsets his valuable five-pounds, this filly has a strong chance to bag a fourth win this year.

Leg 2 Selections: Isemel

A weak contest in which a chance is taken on ISEMEL who was quite highly tried last year and ran her best race to date when sixth on the all-weather last time. She’s back on the turf off a lower mark and Richard Hannon must think she will win a race at some point as there aren’t many horses rated 44 in his yard. With a three-pounds claimer in the saddle, this is a good opportunity for the filly to shed the maiden tag off a basement mark.

Leg 3 Selections: Confrerie, Asense

CONFRERIE was well beaten on his return when last spotted but he’s a former course winner, who’s seven pounds below his last winning mark. All of his wins and placed efforts at this track have been off higher marks so, in the hope he can take a step forward from his return, he could play a leading role. ASENSE arrives in good form and gets into this off a nice weight from a lenient mark. Gary Moore’s filly should go close in this winnable contest.

Leg 4 Selections: Jack D’or

JACK D’OR has a very poor win ratio having only won one of his thirty-one starts but the six-year-old placed five times last year off marks in the 70’s and he ran well on his penultimate start at Bath to suggest his turn might be near. He is drawn well in stall six and should appreciate the return to this longer distance. In such a wide-open heat, this could be the day he finally gets his head back in front. Either way, he has the ability to at least make the frame here.

Leg 5 Selections: Granary Queen, Uncle Dick

Eve Johnson Houghton has two intended runners in this race and I like both. Firstly, GRANARY QUEEN, who’s won two of her last three starts and has a good record at this venue with two wins and two placed efforts from five starts. Given she’s the choice of stable jockey Charles Bishop, she’s a player. UNCLE DICK had a luckless passage at Bath last time and would have definitely gone close otherwise. He has made the frame twice this year off higher marks so, if he gets the gaps, he could beat his stablemate.

Leg 6 Selections: Porterinthejungle, Red Alert

Robyn Brisland's PORTERINTHEJUNGLE loves it here being a three-time C&D winner and is five-pounds lower than when winning here in a class five event in August last year. She ran well here last time from a two-pounds higher mark and this race is a slight drop in grade. If she brings her best form to the table, she could easily defy top-weight, though RED ALERT has won at this course off a mark of 81 in the past and could pose a threat if ready to roll after a two-month break.
