Leg 1 Selections: Study The Stars, Fast Steps

STUDY THE STARS has taken his form to another level this year and recorded a good victory at Newbury two weeks ago. He’s eight-pounds higher mark but he cannot be discounted in leg one here whilst in such good form at the moment. FAST STEPS was no match for the former when last spotted but the refitted headgear could see him bridge the gap on today’s better terms.

Leg 2 Selections: Bailey Gate

BAILEY GATE took a major step forward from his reappearance when runner-up in a class three event at Ascot last-time-out and that form should work out nicely in the near future. He should find this race a bit easier and Pat Dobbs has been retained to ride too. With more to come dropped back to five furlongs, which should suit given how much speed he showed the last day, he could go one better.

Leg 3 Selections: Desert Order

This race should prove informative and DESERT ORDER, who had shaped with promise when third on debut, is expected to utilise that experience to go well in this contest. He may have actually won that day, when third at Newbury, without being hampered at the start before flying home late to only be beaten a couple of lengths. He is the one to beat in leg three for the boys in the blue for the Buick/Appleby team.

Leg 4 Selections: Cosmic Desert, Maytree Respite

Charlie Appleby’s COSMIC DESERT isn’t really progressing but he’s consistent and, again, ran well when third over course-and-distance two weeks ago. If he can settle, he has the ability to win this race. MAYTREE RESPITE was marginally in front of the former last time when enterprisingly ridden from the front and should give another good account of himself in this small but select field.

Leg 5 Selections: Global Esteem

GLOBAL ESTEEM has posted some solid efforts in defeat since winning at Leicester in May and he wasn’t beaten far when third at Ascot last time despite not being given a hard time of things by his rider. He is back down to his last winning mark now and Pat Dobbs is a positive jockey booking, so despite conceding weight all round, this five-year-old shades the verdict to make his class count back down in class.

Leg 6 Selections: Crystal Casque

CRYSTAL CASQUE arrives in very good form and has a good record at this course, for which she’s won here in the past and has finished runner-up the last two times too. She remains very well-handicapped on last year’s efforts (placed numerous times off marks in the high 70’s) and Callum Hutchinson takes off a value five-pounds too. Not a lot separates a few of these on ratings but the former should be thereabouts.
