Leg 1 Selections: New Definition
The James Tate-trained NEW DEFINITION was clearly inconvenienced by the tactical pace in the three-runner affair at Musselburgh last time when beaten a short-priced favourite into second. However, he did well to get within a neck of the winner under the circumstances and I get the impression his rider will commit him earlier in this race from his handy draw in stall five on the stands-rail. Wen Moon and Prince Of Pillo are less-exposed but the former brings the best form to the table courtesy of his half-a-length second on debut to Lady Bullet, who ran well when sixth in the Albany at Royal Ascot, and is fancied to emerge as the winner here.

Leg 2 Selections: Ironopolis, Edge Of Darkness
IRONOPOLIS was slowly away and green on debut at Redcar but he put in some good late progress to take fourth and, with this step up in distance sure to suit, he’s a huge player in leg two for the Kevin Ryan and Kevin Stott combination. EDGE OF DARKNESS is a son of Australia and is related to some very nice types. Charlie and Mark Johnston have been outstanding with their two-year-old debutants this year. He is of some interest here with Ben Curtis in the saddle.

Leg 3 Selections: Misty Grey, Embour
MISTY GREY has to shoulder top-weight but it’s interesting his trainer has aimed him at this race rather than a Group race and the five-year-old couldn’t be drawn any better in stall fifteen for a prominent racer. He posted a career-best performance when carrying top-weight to victory at Chelmsford last time and while his record on the all-weather is solid, he’s just as effective on the turf. He was second under Pierre at Chester in a Listed event on his penultimate start and his rider can take off three-pounds in this handicap event. He makes plenty of appeal to at least make the frame in this race with lots in his favour. EMBOUR has fallen to an attractive mark and has ran well the last two times, so isn’t out of this off a tiny weight.

Leg 4 Selections: Garden Oasis, Eldrickjones
GARDEN OASIS performs at this course better than anywhere else and this three-time course-and-distance winner ran well when a close-up third here on his penultimate start. He won both his starts here in August last year, including off a mark of 85 in a class-two event and is eight pounds lower now, so he should be tough to beat under front-running tactics. Of the rest, it’s possible ELDRICKJONES shaped better than the result indicated last time and is well worth a go over this mile distance. He has the form in the book to go well if he stays in leg four.

Leg 5 Selections: Skedaddled, Peripeteia
SKEDADDLED is going from strength-to-strength despite remaining winless and her last two performances have been her best yet, which includes a fine fourth behind Bearwith when last spotted. She’s off the same mark here and has Phil Dennis in the saddle again too, so she has a good chance of at least hitting the frame. PERIPETEIA was well beaten last-time-out but was suited to positive tactics when a close-up fourth on her penultimate start off a five-pounds higher mark. This is a drop in grade and she’s reunited with Jason Hart, so Phil Kirby’s filly has a nice chance on these terms off a mark that’s exploitable.

Leg 6 Selections: Penelopeblueyes, Foreshadow
This is wide-open, but connections may have found the right distance for PENELOPEBLUEYES who wasn’t beaten far when fourth at Redcar last time and the assessor has taken a light and kind view of that performance by essentially dropping her mark a pound. She has solid each-way claims in leg six with Ryan Sexton booked to ride, who takes off his valuable five-pounds to increase her chances. FORESHADOW wasn’t far behind City Vaults last week at Ayr and could reverse the form in this race with more to offer on the turf.
