Architect Tips shares his Tote Placepot tips for today's racing at Goodwood.
17:01 Goodwood
Leg 1 Selections: Bibulous, Oriental Spirit
Henry Candy’s BIBULOUS lost nothing in defeat when bumping into a next-time-out winner when second at Ffos Las and while this is a much bigger field, he should be able to continue his progression. ORIENTAL SPIRIT wasn’t beaten far off this mark when last spotted and remains open to improvement, so he should go well in what is an open race to start proceedings in leg one.
17:35 Goodwood
Leg 2 Selections: Sir Laurence Graff
SIR LAURENCE GRAFF is currently entered in next year’s Derby and ran very well on debut to finish fourth despite everything going wrong from the very start of the race. He is expected to leave that run well behind and the experience will have done him the world of good ahead of this race too. Given how unlucky he was not to finish closer last time, he might be able to make amends here in leg two unless one of the newcomers turn out to be above average.
18:10 Goodwood
Leg 3 Selections: Bascule
BASCULE improved massively throughout the second half of last year, in which he completed a four-timer on the all-weather. Richard Hughes’ four-year-old shaped very well after seven months off when seventh of 13 in a highly-competitive handicap here nearly four weeks ago and would have finished closer with a clear passage. He will find this easier, so with more to come as a stayer on the turf, the top-weight should go very well at decent odds.

Leg 4 Selections: Seeola
The Roger Varian-trained SEEOLA could only finish fifth on debut but still shaped with a lot of promise and this expensive purchase should take a significant step forward from that assignment in this race. This is quite a competitive event for leg four but she’s clearly well-regarded by connections and should go close from a good draw in stall three. She’s the only pick for this race as it would be slightly disappointing if she couldn’t make the frame at least here.
19:15 Goodwood
Leg 5 Selections: Canoodled
Ed Walker’s CANOODLED has yet to score this year but again ran well in defeat when fourth last-time-out despite a bad start. She remains off the same mark as when last successful, which came in a class three event at Newmarket, and gets into this race off bottom-weight. In a race lacking strength-in-depth, she is strongly fancied to capitalise on this easier opportunity in leg five under Hector Crouch.

Leg 6 Selections: Gherkin, Street Life
GHERKIN is generally consistent and has posted three solid efforts in defeat since winning at Windsor. He fared best of those up with the pace when last spotted, finishing third, and has sound claims off a pound lower mark here. I fear STREET LIFE, who won last time but was disqualified due to causing some interference and also has a good chance off a pound lower mark. I’ll play these two against the field in leg six.
