Not that many who have a significant amount of upside in their profiles in what looks a poor nursery for the track standards, so it may well be that STAR PLAYER (best price 3/1) just about has enough quality to shrug aside top weight.

Good Regal arrives here in excellent heart bidding for her third win in her last four starts, but INNSE GALL (best price 7/2) also commands plenty of respect and at the respective morning odds, Iain Jardine’s gelding just gains the vote. 

A comfortable winner at Carlisle two starts ago, the son of Toronado went back to the Yorkshire venue on a repeat mission 18 days later and although that particular venture ended up coming unstuck, his performance levels according to the clock didn’t dip too appreciably.

Versatile between 1m2f and 1m4f, the dropping back of a furlong from last time shouldn’t be too much of an issue and with the four-year-old holding a significant advantage over most of the field on account of his record at today’s track (313), hopefully he can put that knowledge to good use. 

CHINESE SPIRIT (best price 7/2) often comes good at this time of the year and with Linda Perratt’s grey once again trending in the right direction, he’s likely to take all the beating at one of his favourite venues. 

A three-time winner so far this season, the eight-year-old is clearly holding his form together quite nicely and he might well have made it four had he not challenged on the slowest part of the track over today’s course last time out.

Prior to that slightly unlucky effort five days ago, the son of Coldovil showed all his battling qualities to get the better of the in-form Bankawi at Musselburgh and with his collection of speed figures this season very much suggesting he’s in the form of his life, another bold show looks on the cards from this ever-consistent veteran.
