14:00 Sedgefield

The Dianne Sayer trained THE NAVIGATOR (best priced at 9/2) has a good record at Sedgefield in handicaps with career form figures of 1121 and he should run well once again over this course and distance. The seven-year-old grey won over this course and distance in April off a mark of 106 before winning on the flat at Carlisle and he has run well under both codes since.
This rating of 115 is a career high mark but The Navigator does look deserving of it following his five lengths victory off a mark of 106 on his last appearance at the track. Both Caramelised and Gordon’s Jet are respected opponents but they come into the race with a few question marks and I am hoping the proven course and distance form of The Navigator means he can gain a fourth success at the track.

The Karl Burke trained POLYPHONIC (best priced at 13/8) was an impressive winner at Carlisle last week and he should hold strong claims under a 6lb penalty. The three-year-old had run well in novice races to finish 4th, 2nd twice and 3rd and initially it looked as if an opening mark of 74 in handicaps would be too high for him. However, following a gelding operation in July, he made an impressive reappearance from a 71 day break to win easily by eight lengths last time.
The handicapper has raised Polyphonic 10lbs for that victory but he instead runs here under a 6lb penalty meaning that he is 4lbs “well in” at the weights in this race. Fellow three-year-old Dark Mystery looks the biggest danger following his win at Newbury last time but if Polyphonic can repeat the form of his latest run then he should prove hard to beat.

MAJESTIC (best priced at 15/8) represents London & South in the Racing League and the Mick Channon trained gelding should run well once again. The four-year-old has been running consistently well this season with form figures of 43212 which included a near miss at Beverley on Saturday. The gelding won at Pontefract on his penultimate start by 5 ½ lengths before finishing only ¾ length behind It Just Takes Time at Beverley last time on his handicap debut off a mark of 82.
The handicapper has raised Majestic 3lbs for that run up to a mark of 85 but he instead runs here off his old mark meaning that he is 3lbs “well in” at the weights in this race. Sean Levey will be riding with confidence high having won on three of his previous four rides and I feel Majestic should prove hard to beat.
