Leg 1 Selections: Bugle Major, Just The Man

BUGLE MAJOR couldn’t get a win for former boss Richard Hughes but is generally consistent and has subsequently joined another top-quality stable. The seven-year-old drops into a class five for the first time in his career and if Taylor Fisher can get a tune out of him, he could prove much the best of these in the opener. JUST THE MAN has been in terrific form over hurdles this year and he’s just as effective in this sphere, while his mark has become attractive and Liam Wright claims three-pounds. I am quite confident one of these two will, at the very least, make the frame.

Leg 2 Selections: Roman Spring

ROMAN SPRING shaped with a bundle of promise when fourth on his debut at Chelmsford and would undoubtedly have finished closer without being short of room towards the finish when closing on the three who were in front of him. If you go back and watch the reply of his race, his rider tentatively handled him up the home straight despite keeping on well (would have been third with a clear run) and his rider must have been required to give him an education test to get some experience under his belt. He is likely to take a major step forward from that effort and is strongly fancied to take the rise in trip and class in his stride on turf debut.

Leg 3 Selections: Doom, Quantum Light

DOOM is a nicely-bred newcomer, who’s related to several classic winners and given her trainer William Haggas operates an unbelievable 33% strike-rate at this venue over the last five years, this daughter of Dubawi could turn out be a potent threat here. QUANTUM LIGHT ran a solid race when third on debut behind two promising types in the shape of Clochette and Aunt Violet and while the latter has let the form down since, Ralph Beckett’s runner should be on the premises with scope to improve in leg three.

Leg 4 Selections: Juliet Sierra, So Sleepy

The feature race of the day is a highly-competitive Group Three event and I have two suggestions at decent odds. I liked the way JULIET SIERRA performed on debut when second at Newmarket, keeping on well in the closing stages despite racing keenly, but made no mistake in going one better at Nottingham next time. She wasn’t fully extended under Rob Hornby that day but hit the line strongly and while this is a step up in grade, the pace of this race should really suit and her finishing kick could have a number of these in trouble. I think she’s got a great chance. SO SLEEPY overcome inexperience, a bad draw and a slow start to make a winning debut just over three weeks ago. It’s interesting to see her connections, who have had a great season, take aim at this much deeper race, which means they think she’s capable. With this longer trip expected to suit, she could surprise a few at large odds.

Leg 5 Selections: Mishal Star, Crazy Luck

MISHAL STAR remains lightly-raced and has been highly-tried since her debut fourth behind the classy Alcohol Free. Six of her last seven outings have been in Listed company and she’s been thereabouts in each of those, including when fifth on her return at Chelmsford last time. This race presents an ease in grade and, with that pipe-opener under her belt, her class may see her shine off top-weight. CRAZY LUCK is closely matched with the favourite (best Makarova) and while she disappointed at Ascot last time, she appeals as the type to bounce back here.

Leg 6 Selections: Indemnify

The Roger Varian-trained INDEMNIFY was sent off a really short-priced favourite to open his account at Nottingham last time and while the race didn’t have much strength-in-depth, this son of Lope De Vega strolled to an eight-length success. He had previously showed tons of promise in his previous three starts and, now making his handicap debut off a lenient-looking mark of 85 with the excellent Ryan Moore booked to ride, he’s fancied to succumb the hat-trick bid of Persian Royal in the last leg, leg six.
