RED VISION (best price 4/1) shaped as though he’d be all the better for his first run for 114 days at Bangor last time out and with the distinct possibility of today’s step up in trip also working in his favour, Donald McCain’s gelding can provide his all-conquering trainer/jockey combination another winner. 

Extremely well backed despite his layoff, the son of Vision E’tat ended up, like all of those pursuing tearaway front-runner State Crown, between a rock and a hard place in deciding whether to go and chase the leader, and although he made a little belated late headway, he never looked like bridging the gap.

That said, it was a perfectly respectable effort in his own private battle with the rest and when you consider two of those behind him that night have gone on to win and finish second respectively since, the form doesn’t look too shabby.

A good fifth in a quality handicap at Sandown on his final start pre-wind operation, the sedater nature of class 4 company and 2m4f should suit this former point winner down to the ground and if the first-time tongue-tie also works the trick, then it’s a case of Bob’s your uncle. 

GLASSTREES (best price 9/2) is putting together a nice series of performances on an all-weather surface and with one of his main contributors to that record being today’s C&D, Michael Appleby’s filly is fancied to continue the general trend. 

Fourth on her first visit to the Midland venue, the daughter of Heeraat came back two months later in a bid to better that result and as it turned out, she ended up coming out on top – albeit courtesy of a helping hand from the stewards.

A strong choice to uphold the form with her old rival Street Life at Southwell last time out, the three-year-old grey this time had to play second fiddle, but as her career record suggests she’s probably a better horse around a turning track, it wasn’t viewed as a massive step in the wrong direction. Nicely drawn for a horse who likes to race forward, a good break should see her competitive throughout.
