PRIMROSE RIDGE (best price 18/1) hasn’t been out since finishing down the field in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot but she was far from disgraced that day and she makes her all-weather debut today in this much easier race. The form of her two seconds to Lady Of Star M and her debut second to Persian Force reads strong form in this race. She’s undergone wind surgery since last time and that attachment could be the catalyst for further improvement. With the bang in-form David Egan booked to ride, she could go well at large odds if she takes to the surface.

An excellent-sprint contest with the marginal vote going to CLARENDON HOUSE (best price 9/2) to capitalise in the ease in grade and make it two-from-two over course-and-distance. He was out of his depth when down the field at York in the Group 1 Nunthorpe last time but he clocked a decent time when seeing off his two rivals over track and trip back in June and is closely matched with Acklam Express. It’s one-one between the pair at the moment yet the former is nearly twice the price of the latter, which seems a little insulting if recent form is anything to go by here.

Robert Cowell’s charge can lead but even if he doesn’t, in which King Of Stars might try to dictate matters, he’ll still be ridden handily, most likely in behind the pacesetter, and he has a turn of foot which he displayed here previously. He has to give three-pounds and upwards to his rivals but he seems fully effective at this course and his record below pattern company on similar ground reads an impressive 1121121. Also, his record in races with six runners or less on nice ground reads 11111 (five-from-five). With a lot of positives in regards to his chances, he makes fair each-way appeal here despite being limited to just two places.
