NEW PURSUIT (best price 9/4) won over course-and-distance on his return in April and ran well when second at Windsor last time. This is a drop in grade and an excellent three-pounds claimer has been booked to ride. I am not sure where the pace is going to come from but he remains well-handicapped on the pick of his form and a repeat of his latest performance should see him go close here.

Dermot Weld’s AZALLYA (best price 20/1) ran a fine race when second of 15 to Yaxeni in Listed race at Galway three weeks ago and should be much fitter now, as that was her first start in 100+ days and she’s better off at the weights with the winner here. This race is likely to have been a long-term plan and based on the evidence of her excellent second to Jason The Militant (Layfayette) back in third, she looks well-treated off a mark of 97 ahead of her handicap debut. This longer trip should unlock further progression, and she absolutely battered Earl Of Tyrone at Cork last year, so despite her wide draw, I can see this talented and unexposed filly running a big race here with six places widely available.

LOT OF JOY (best price 8/1) ran a tremendous race when fourth of 20 on stable debut behind Echoes In Rain at Galway from a bad draw and the assessor has taken a light view of that fine effort in defeat, only putting her up a pound. She was previously a classy filly in Scandinavia, winning last year’s Swedish St Leger and was second in a pair of Oaks in Sweden and Norway too. She’s drawn wide again here but she’s open to more improvement than nearly this whole field and Willie Mullins has booked the services of Danny Tudhope. With six places widely available, she’s got a great each-way chance.

MAZE RUNNER (best price 14/1) ran a huge race when second to stablemate Echoes In Rain at Galway last time when Lot Of Joy was back in fourth and she meets the winner on five-pounds better terms for that one and a half length defeat, so there’s every possibility she could reverse the form. She ran a great race when third in this twelve months ago and given both Ronan Whelan and Willie Mullins have won this race before, this consistent seven-year-old looks a big player again with six places widely on offer.
