Although he’s forced to carry top-weight on his return to action, the nine-year-old BARON DE MIDLETON (best price 8/1) makes a lot of each-way appeal here. His record at this course reads figures of 1223, with the win coming over track and trip in this sphere. Brian Ellison’s charge is really consistent and he went very close here the last two times over fences off marks of 119 and 120, beaten a neck and just over a length in each of those and looks well-treated back over hurdles off a two pounds lower mark. Even though he’s not been seen for a while, he is the class act in the race, and has the ability to go well at nice odds.

ATOMIC ANGEL (best price 6/1) held her form well over hurdles since gaining a second career win back in February, which came at this course, and she makes her chase debut off what is a really nice mark here. She is from the same family as the classy Flagship Uberalles and Viking Flagship, so she’s bred to have a good future over fences, and besides the favourite, this looks a weak race, so she could go very well on chase debut at a course she’s won at before, which is a massive plus within her credentials.

LADY STANWIX (best price 5/4) won very nicely on her first start for this stable in a bumper back in July and made a solid start to her hurdles career when second to an odds-on favourite ar Perth. For a hurdling debutant, she jumped really well and travelled beautifully throughout (better than the eventual winner), so that experience will have done her the world of good and she’s strongly fancied to go one better here. Reve De Niamh is one to monitor closely in the betting on hurdles debut, while debutant Thermusa is interesting too.

MALANGEN (best price 4/1) is a solid each-way option here. He won twice in the summer this year and although he was only fourth last time, he didn’t jump as well as he could, and he’s back down to his last winning mark now. He has defied much higher marks in the past, such as 109, 111 and 106, as well as placing numerous times off higher marks too. He’s the well-handicapped horse in this race as none of the others can boost comparable form, so in the hope he jumps better this time round, he should be extremely competitive under Tommy Dowson here.
