ZOFFMAN (best price 6/1) finally got off the mark at the Curragh last time after a series of frustrating placed efforts and with the numbers from that race 11 days ago suggesting Noel Meade’s gelding took his game to another level, he’s fancied to feature heavily in the final analysis on his return to handicap company.

Runner-up to the useful Saturn Five on his previous out at Punchestown, the son of Zoffany only has half-a-length to find with his old rival based on that run and with today’s conditions similar to what they were at the Co Kildare venue last time out (soft), there’s more than a fair chance he can turn around the form. Looking at the backend part of the race of his most recent performance, the sectional data reveals only the Group 3-winning sprinter Art Power ran quicker than this three-year-old chestnut from three furlongs out and with the assessor only seeing fit to raise him to a mark of 80 despite the evidence suggesting otherwise, he makes plenty of appeal as a strong each-way alternative to the favourite at the morning prices.

RUMI (best price 4/1) created a very favourable impression on his first start for new connections over hurdles at Listowel last time out and with Edward O’Grady’s gelding sidestepping the option of exploiting his new-found talents in that sphere in favour of returning to the Flat, the change in tack can be rewarded.

A previous winner for Harry and Roger Charlton on the all-weather in the UK, the son of Harzand was switched stables after rather losing his way and on the evidence of what we witnessed of him at the Harvest Festival several weeks ago, the move seems to have paid off in spades. Hooded for the first time after a 103-day break, the scopey four-year-old set out to make all the running at the Co Kerry venue and it soon became apparent that he had his rivals on the ropes. Maintaining a strong gallop throughout, he bounded clear to score with plenty in hand and now it just becomes a question of can he translate that level of form back on the Flat. If he can, a mark of 64 looks more than favourable and with Rachel Blackmore maintaining the partnership, another positive ride from Irish racing’s glamour girl should see him tough to beat hailing from a stable in a rich vein of form.
