Steve Ryder shares his Tote Placepot tips for today's racing at Haydock.
13:40 Haydock
Leg 1 Selections: Golden Bullet
The Archie Watson trained GOLDEN BULLET put in her best performance last time and she should hold strong claims on her handicap debut. The daughter of No Nay Never has weakened in the final furlong of her races so far over 6f shaping like this drop to 5f should suit. The handicapper has given her an opening mark of 73 which seems very fair and she should run well.
14:15 Haydock
Leg 2 Selections: Diamond Vega
This looks like a trappy four runner novice race but preference goes to the Ralph Beckett trained DIAMOND VEGA. The two-year-old outran odds of 20/1 to finish a close 2nd on her debut at Kempton and she should improve from that effort. She finished ¾ length ahead of the 72 rated Dakota Elegance on her debut which gives her the beating of the 73 rated Tephi and she should get off the mark at the second attempt.
14:50 Haydock
Leg 3 Selections: Sterling Knight
The Ed Dunlop trained STERLING KNIGHT won over this course and distance last time in a big field handicap and the three-year-old should hold strong claims off only a 4lb higher mark. That was the first time he had worn cheekpieces since August 2021 and if they have the same effect for a second time then this mark of 89 shouldn’t be beyond reach. Rhys Clutterbuck rode him to victory last time by a length and he takes off 3lbs once again in this race and he should run well once again.
15:25 Haydock
Leg 4 Selections: Saxon King
The newcomer Roost is worthy of respect but preference goes to SAXON KING who should prove hard to beat if he runs up to his official rating of 80. The Charlie Hills trained colt stepped forward from his debut at Windsor to finish 3rd at Ascot on his second start. He was only beaten a head at Lingfield last time on the all-weather where he earned his rating of 80. A repeat of that effort back on turf should be enough to win this and I expect him to prove hard to beat.
16:00 Haydock
Leg 5 Selections: Alazwar
The Archie Watson trained ALAZWAR won over this course and distance on his penultimate start and despite slightly disappointing at Goodwood last time, he should run well off the same mark. The four-year-old won by a length on his penultimate start off a mark of 85 before finishing only 2 ½ lengths behind the winner last time at Goodwood when 7th. This return to Haydock should suit and he should run well if coping with the ground.
16:33 Haydock
Leg 6 4:33- Queen’s Eyot
This looks a competitive 0-70 handicap but preference goes to QUEENS EYOT who should benefit for the application of a first time visor. The Ed Dunlop trained gelding won in first time cheekpieces at Yarmouth in August before slightly disappointing on his next three starts. His victory came off a mark of 64 and he is now only 1lb higher but crucially is now fitted with a first time visor in this race. Rhys Clutterbuck takes off a handy 3lbs and he should run well.
