I like the claims of AUTONOMOUS CLOUD (best price 10/3) in this race. He was a good winner on his bumper debut before posting three solid efforts in defeat in all three starts over hurdles earlier this year. His connections have wasted no time in sending him straight over fences and he should appreciate the step up in distance too. An opening mark of 116 is definitely on the lenient side and I can envisage him being extremely competitive here.

This is competitive but NOT AVAILABLE (best price 4/1) isn’t out of this at big odds here. He was well-held on his return over track and trip last month but he defied higher marks twice last year when landing back-to-back events at Newbury and Ludlow. He’s also seven pounds better off than when second to Magic Dancer in this race twelve months ago. He’s likely to be given an attacking ride under Stan Shepherd here, which sees him to best effect, and with a good record when the ground has good in it, he could be tough to overhaul with fitness assured off a mark he’s capable of exploiting when at his best.

The one who appeals most in this race is Harry Fry’s FAIRY GEM (best price 9/4), who overcame a poor track position to make a winning debut in a bumper last December before an excellent second in a Listed event at Cheltenham next time. She then ran well when third in another Listed event on her final start of the campaign and is an exciting mare for this division this season. With the pedigree to be smart, she makes plenty of appeal on her hurdles debut.
