Leg 1 Selections: Mullenbeg

MULLENBEG was very smart in bumpers, in which she recorded two wins including a Listed event at Cheltenham in good style. She has returned a beaten favourite in her last four starts but Milton Harris still holds her in the highest regard and let’s not forget, this mare was close to competing in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this year.

We haven’t seen the best of her in this sphere as of yet but she retains potential and is partnered by Paddy Brennan for the first time here. Furthermore, she’s Milton’s only runner on the card and, given her ability, she is handed one more chance to showcase her qualities over the obstacles by getting off the mark here.

Leg 2 Selections: Scarface

SCARFACE was runner-up in his first two starts and although he struggled in the Ballymore at the Cheltenham Festival, he’ll find this race a lot easier as he drops significantly in grade. He is up against unexposed types but he sets a clear standard and should take all of the beating in a race that seems a good opportunity for him to make a winning reappearance here.

Leg 3 Selections: Bal Amie, My Bad Lucy

The Oliver Sherwood-trained BAL AMIE could only plug on at the one pace when second on stable debut last time but he should build on that effort and has a decent chance on these terms. MY BAD LUCY should appreciate the step up in distance on handicap/chase debut and, with a lightly raced profile, likewise to the former, he could pose a bigger threat in this race.

Leg 4 Selections: Light N Strike, Lord Baddesley

LIGHT N STRIKE took a really heavy fall at Chepstow but he’s seemingly none the worse for that mishap as connections turn him out relatively quickly back over hurdles. I think he might have won as he was closing down the eventual winner and he is reverted back to hurdles off an eight pounds lower mark with a seven-pounds claimer back in the plate. He must have a good chance in this. LORD BADDESLEY was a good fourth in the Betfair Hurdle and shaped well when second in the Silver Trophy on his return. Nudged up only a pound, he could easily go one better.

Leg 5 Selections: Bolsover Bill, En Coeur

BOLSOVER BILL has been thereabouts the last two times and is on the same mark as when second at Stratford last time. With more to come in this sphere, he could go well again, while EN COEUR is a course winner, who’s quite consistent over fences. He is back on the same mark as when winning by seven lengths here back in January and boasts course form in this sphere of 21123133. He’s a huge player with fitness on his side.

Leg 6 Selections: Coolnaugh Haze

The Philip Hobbs-trained COOLNAUGH HAZE has been really consistent over hurdles up to this point, never finishing out of the frame in all six starts and won very comfortably from the front over course-and-distance back in January. He makes his return after an absence but should be fully tuned up for this race and could take some pegging back if able to get the lead in the early stages.
