Leg 1 Selections: Ritson

RITSON might have a bit to find with a few of these on the form but he’s made the frame in all three previous starts on heavy ground and looked in need of the run on his chase/seasonal debut last time. He finished second off this mark on his final start over hurdles last season, so if able to take a step forward from his latest start, he could pose a threat off bottom-weight.

Leg 2 Selections: Wholeofthemoon

WHOLEOFTHEMOON built a consistent profile on the Flat, finishing no worse than fourth in all starts and finished second four of his last five outings. He is an interesting hurdles debutante here for Richard Hughes and Brian Hughes has been booked to ride. If he can translate his Flat ability to this sphere, he should go very well here.

Leg 3 Selections: Readysteadybeau

READYSTEADYBEAU is the best bet on the card in my view. Lucinda Russell’s six-year-old saves his best for soft/heavy ground and the only time he disappointed over hurdles was in a Grade Two. He ran a remarkable race last time to finish a close-up third on his chase/seasonal debut behind two horses rated 128 and 137. Off only a pound higher mark dropped in grade, he can put that experience to good use and make his second chase start a winning one here.

Leg 4 Selections: Magic Wave, Pembroke

MAGIC WAVE finished second in his first two bumpers before he improved to go one better on his reappearance a month ago. He handles soft ground and should have a bright future in this sphere, so is fancied to make an impact with more to come.

PEMBROKE was impressive when winning a bumper at Huntingdon back in March and shaped better than the finishing position indicated when seventh of 15 on hurdles debut at Chepstow. He should have lots more to offer and is fancied to run a big race for the Skelton’s here.

Leg 5 Selections: Adrimel, Knickerbockerglory

ADRIMEL is a Grade Two winner over hurdles and while he was below-par on his final two starts last term, this smaller-field scenario combined with heavy ground will be right up his street. His form figures on this sort of ground reads 1111 and his trainer Tom Lacey is in good form, so he could make a bold bid.

His main danger is Dan Skelton’s KNICKERBOCKERGLORY, who has won three of his last four starts and made a successful chase debut in a two-runner event last-time-out. He should have more to come and is a big player here.

Leg 6 Selections: Bowland Belle, Heavenly Clouds

BOWLAND BELLE is related to plenty of decent types and this mare could go well on her debut, especially if the market speaks in her favour. I am also interested to see how HEAVENLY CLOUDS will get on here, who could develop into a smart mare herself and is also worth an interest at decent odds.
