Leg 1 Selections: Abbey’s Dream, Evening Story

ABBEY’S DREAM has run in two novice events this Autumn, in which she’s shaped promisingly in each of those, and went close at Chelmsford when second in her most recent start. She is drawn well in stall two and sets the standard of those with experience, so it’s hard seeing her out of the frame here with more to come.

EVENING STORY has also displayed promise in both her starts to date and wasn’t beaten far when third last-time-out. She’s also drawn well here, in stall four, and connections have booked Rossa Ryan to ride. This race lacks any sort of strength in depth, so there’s every chance this daughter of New Bay could be competitive.

Leg 2 Selections: Perdika, Hobson Point

PERDIKA has been on a roll since her debut eighth, where she’s now won three times on the spin and had a bit to spare when defying a double penalty at Chelmsford last time. This is her first time going right-handed but if Abbey’s Dream in the opener can give the form a boost, who chased this one home last time, George Boughey’s progressive filly could up to completing the four-timer.

HOBSON POINT caught the eye when runner-up on debut and then ran a really solid race when fifth of 12 in a class three at York next time. He went very close when third at Redcar last time, marginally beaten in a three-way finish, and should have plenty more to come on stable debut for this yard, so while this race is more competitive than last time, he could easily reach the frame.

Leg 3 Selections: Stenton Glider

The Hugo Palmer-trained STENTON GLIDER was sent off 18/1 against a 1/4 favourite, who already had experience, on debut at Chester but easily brushed aside the latter by more than two lengths and her performance be worthy of an upgrade to some extent as Chester can be tricky for newcomers. Her time-figure was pretty good and James Doyle is booked to ride here. With the step up to a mile likely to be no issue, she could have the ammunition to lower the colours of Roger Varian’s red-hot favourite.

Leg 4 Selections: Congresbury

CONGRESBURY could hardly have shaped any better when second at this course on debut behind Ferrari Queen, beaten around two lengths, and the winner has been highly tried in various group events since, including in a Group One last time. His absence is a bit of a concern but his trainer knows how to ready one and, with William Buick in the saddle, he could be set to run a big race back here.

Leg 5 Selections: Whispering Romance

WHISPERING ROMANCE cost a large sum as a yearling and although she only scrambled home over course-and-distance on debut when sent off 4/7 favourite, she will have learnt plenty from that experience. Charlie Appleby has an excellent 35% strike-rate at this course, while William Buick has a 24% strike-rate here so, with plenty more to come, she can remain unbeaten here.

Leg 6 Selections: Star From Afarhh

This race is anybody’s for the taking but a chance is taken on STAR FROM AFARHH, who has fallen to a handy mark and drops into this grade for the first time in her career. She hasn’t won since scoring on her debut at Newmarket but Ed Walker’s filly ran quite well on her all-weather debut last time and could go close if able to build on that effort here.
