Leg 1 Selections: Duke Of Firenze, Nellie French

DUKE OF FIRENZE is the oldest at the party and probably doesn’t have many runs left in him before heading for a deserved retirement but he’s handicapped to have a say in the outcome of this contest. He has run fairly well the last two times on the all-weather and is twenty-six pounds below his last winning mark, so he is greatly respected.

NELLIE FRENCH won over this course-and-distance last year off a four pounds higher mark and fared best of those held-up when third here last time. Her draw isn’t too bad in stall seven and her stablemates have been performing consistently well in defeat for a while.

Leg 2 Selections: Pherenikos

The Charlie Appleby-trained PHERENIKOS was beaten at short-odds last time but the winner Alazahir is quite useful having been highly tried at Royal Ascot on his second start plus this Godolphin runner brings some of the best form to the table. Self Aclaim and Tiger Bay both shaped very promisingly on their debut but William Buick should be able to guide the former to success at the third time of asking here.

Leg 3 Selections: Blue Hero

BLUE HERO has put together three solid efforts in defeat at this course and is now five-pounds below his last winning mark which albeit did come on the turf at Bath. However, he’s drawn well in stall five and this is a weak race, so if Tyler Heard can get him into a decent early position, this four-year-old must have every chance of being extremely competitive here. It is hard to see him out of the frame with most of his opponents having plenty to prove at present.

Leg 4 Selections: Estacas

ESTACAS beat Chianti Classico on his debut at Ascot and given the second has advertised the form in a huge way since by winning both starts over hurdles, this promising sort could turn out to be very useful for connections and win plenty of races in due course. He was beaten into third when last spotted but retains potential and shouldn’t be far away in a race lacking strength in depth.

Leg 5 Selections: Compliant

COMPLIANT will have to defy a penalty to follow-up her most recent Newcastle success but the way she hit the line strongly suggests she has a lot more to come. She gets the assistance of William Buick today and brings the best form into the race having beaten a course specialist Broctune Red last-time-out. She will be a short-price here but she’s the rightful favourite and the one to beat with more to offer.

Leg 6 Selections: Young Winston, Caracristi

YOUNG WINSTON met some trouble-in-running when seventh here last time and would have undoubtedly finished a lot closer otherwise. He made the frame at Nottingham earlier this year off a higher mark, so this is a good opportunity for him to go close. CARACRISTI has been super consistent in defeat for a while and was only beaten half a length here last time, so she also makes the shortlist.
