Leg 1 Selections: Junkanoo

JUNKANOO has produced two good runs since the visor has been applied, in which he won here last month before backing up that effort with a good second in a stronger race than this last week. He is officially two-pounds “well-in”, drops in class and defied a four-pounds higher mark last year on the turf, so Gary Moore’s charge gets quite a confident vote to once again make his presence felt here.

Leg 2 Selections: Fox Vision

Hadrianus shaped promisingly when second on debut but Roger Varian has a good strike-rate with debutants and therefore FOX VISION might be capable of taking this race. This son of New Approach wasn’t the cheapest of yearlings and is related to several winners too. It might be a bit risky advising a newcomer but there seems an air of uncertainty about this favourite in my opinion, in which I could be wrong, but the former could be useful and might emerge as a big player.

Leg 3 Selections: Ready Reckoner

READY RECKONER has shaped fairly well in both his two recent starts and was only beaten around three lengths last-time-out having not been helped by being forced up the rail for the majority of the contest. He looked to be coming with a dangerous challenge until only keeping on at the once pace in fifth. The step up in trip could spark improvement and some cheek-pieces have been attached this time too, so he has to merit some consideration in this wide-open race.

Leg 4 Selections: Sapphire Seas, Twirling

Charlie Appleby has two in this who are first and second-favourite. However, SAPPHIRE SEAS is the choice of William Buick and she makes plenty of appeal to at least hit the frame given her trainers impressive strike-rate with two-year-old’s this year. She could make a winning debut, though TWIRLING is also an interesting newcomer and she could also go well for the bang in-form Simon Crisford team.

Leg 5 Selections: Noble Order, Unforgotten

NOBLE ORDER ran very well under the circumstances to finish third on his seasonal/handicap debut over track and trip four weeks ago despite doing plenty wrong and being sent off favourite.Charlie Appleby’s charge should come on for the run though and might prove his mark of 86 is extremely lenient. UNFORGOTTEN hasn’t been seen for a long time but looked promising early last year and could go very well on his handicap debut as he bids to make up for lost time.

Leg 6 Selections: Moss Gill, May Sonic

A good race to conclude the column. MOSS GILL has Group 1 form to his name and wasn’t disgraced in a hot sprint race on his return at Newcastle last time. His last sprint start saw him narrowly beaten in a Listed event when rated 108, so he’s undeniably well-treated off 99 and his class could see him shine. MAY SONIC has a good record on the all-weather and is six-pounds below his last winning mark. A seven-pounds claimer has been booked to ride and Charlie Hills’ charge has to be considered a major player.
