Leg 1 Selections: Grivetana

GRIVETANA only found First Street too good over track and trip five weeks ago and that form alone sets the standard here. Paul Nicholls’ improving filly is sitting on a very handy mark and she takes a big drop in grade from last time here. Back against her own sex, she can go one better with more to offer.

Leg 2 Selections: Jet Powered

Nicky Henderson’s JET POWERED looked an absolute monster when easily winning over course-and-distance on his hurdles/rules debut and it was no surprise to see him become a leading fancy for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle after that impressive performance. He has so much more to come on just his second start and he is easily one of the most exciting novice hurdlers this season. This is his race for the taking.

Leg 3 Selections: Casa Tall, Only Money

Tom George’s CASA TALL hasn’t been at his best in both starts so far this season but is seven-pounds below his last winning mark and was running well in a similar race when falling late on here in March. If able to get back to something near his best, the eight-year-old has place possibilities at least in a race that is completely wide-open.

Chris Gordon’s ONLY MONEY has been remarkably consistent since switching to chasing and hasn’t been out of the frame in all of his last seven starts. He proved no match for Amarillo Sky when last spotted but was well clear of the remainder and given he will face no calibre of opponent the same as the winner from last time, he could still continue his fine year with another bold performance here.

Leg 4 Selections: Lady Adare, Nina The Terrier

LADY ADARE is is four-from-four under rules and three-from-three over hurdles and is well-treated off 130 judged on her seven-length defeat of Get A Tonic, who subsequently went close at Haydock off a mark of 133 when second in the Betfair Exchange Stayers' Handicap Hurdle. She has an absence to overcome but goes well fresh and could prove to be a class above these.

Alan King’s NINA THE TERRIER has course-and-distance form in her locker due to her second in a Grade Two here in April and ran well when fifth in the Greatwood at Cheltenham despite not being helped by the bypassed hurdles. I think she makes the most appeal of those at large odds for this race in leg four.

Leg 5 Selections: Le Breuil, Undersupervision

LE BREUIL has looked rejuvenated this year, winning two of his last four starts and the last time he ran here, he was a close-up third in a Grade Two event. This former Cheltenham Festival winner stays well, is down to a handy mark and has run some big races in defeat off higher marks in the past. He has a really solid chance with Luca Morgan taking off his additional five-pounds and his trainer Ben Pauling in good form too.

UNDERSUPERVISION won the Grimthorpe Chase at Doncaster in March off only a four-pounds lower mark and ran well when third on his return at Cheltenham last time. That run should have sorted him out fitness-wise and he takes a big drop in grade here. Despite carrying top-weight, he looks poised to give another good account of himself at a course that should see him to best effect.

Leg 6 Selections: Hermes Allen, Crambo

The feature race of the day, the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle, and the Paul Nicholls-trained HERMES ALLEN should take some beating. He supplemented his hurdles debut success at Hereford with an easy demolition job in a Grade Two at Cheltenham next time. He looks a high-class prospect for the champion trainer and is the one to beat here.

CRAMBO won a pair of bumpers last season and whilst he didn’t jump with great fluency on his hurdles debut, his class and late surge saw him win at Ascot last month and take his unbeaten record to three wins. Paddy Brennan rides him instead of Grade Two winner Accidental Rebel and his presence could see this five-year-old go well here.
