Following a 10/3 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with three selections for today's action.
13:05 Tramore
This looks a competitive maiden hurdle but preference goes to the Henry De Bromhead trained Kap D’Attente (best priced at 13/8) who will have no doubt targeted this memorial race with a smart sort. The five-year-old was purchased for £160k following an impressive 17 length success in a PTP and he is expected to go well for new connections.
Kap D’Attente won easily on heavy ground in his PTP so there is no concern about the soft ground for him whereas there is a slight question mark for the favourite Lisnagar Fortune who was easy to back when winning a Punchestown bumper on good ground in April. Cardamon Hill is the more experienced rival but his bumper form doesn’t look that strong and I expect Kap D’Attente to make winning debut under rules.
14:15 Tramore
Despite having to concede 8lbs for a former Gold Cup winner in the shape of Minella Indo, I will be surprised if Stattler (best priced at 4/5) doesn’t make a winning reappearance here and provide Willie Mullins with a Tramore Savills Chase win in a row. The eight-year-old won all three of his starts over fences last season including an impressive victory in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival by eight lengths.
Minella Indo often needs his first run of the season and isn’t likely to appreciate the 2m6f trip here so Stattler is expected to have too much pace for him on their respected reappearances. He is a general 14/1 shot for the Gold Cup and I expect him to enhance his claims here.
14:30 Cheltenham
Form figures of F4UF don’t give the impression that Brewin’upastorm (best priced at 11/1) enjoys his visits to Cheltenham but he would have gone close if he hadn’t fallen at the last on both occasions over this course and distance. The Olly Murphy trained ten-year-old was alongside Birchdale when falling at the last in the Grade 2 Classic Novices’ Hurdle in 2019 before falling at the last when challenging Stormy Ireland in this race last season. He went on to beat Darver Star and Goshen at Lingfield last season before finishing a close 2nd behind Botox Has in the Grade 2 National Spirit Hurdle giving that rival 6lbs.
Brewin’upastorm is now 12lbs better off with Botox Has from that day and the trainer expects him to come on for his latest Ascot run behind Goshen. This looks a strong contest but with doubts about the trip for both I Like To Move It and Knappers Hill, I am happy to take a chance on him each way.
