FIA FUINIDH (best price 4/1) has shaped pretty well in three decent maiden hurdles up North and, off what appears a reasonable opening mark, Martin Todhunter’s gelding can make his presence felt on handicap debut.

Promising despite being beaten a far way by subsequent Challow Hurdle runner up You Wear It Well on his first start for new connections, the son of Flemensfirth travelled like he was going to take a hand in the finish on his next outing at Kelso only for his effort petered out in the latter stages.

Racing in a similar contest over today’s C&D last time out, he once again loomed up to hold every chance approaching two out, but this time he didn’t have the pace to go with the front two and he ultimately had to settle for an honourable third.

Looking at the numbers from that contest 18 days ago, the data points towards the five-year-old having taking part in the fastest speed figure on the card and with that vital experience of running in a such a race over the C&D hopefully not lost on him, it would come as a slight anti-climax if he doesn’t show his face in a race of this nature.

ALGHEED (NAP) (best price 2/1) not only represents a team in fine form at the moment, she arrives here right on top of her game and a repeat of something close to her most recent success at Lingfield should see Mark Loughnane’s mare go close in her repeat bid.

A hugely consistent type on the all-weather she had, however, built up a rather frustrating series of placed efforts prior to shipping up at the Surrey venue, but despite racing a little exuberantly in the early stages of what turned out to be a strongly run affair, she had enough left in the tank at the business end to hang on once she’d kicked for the judge off the home turn.

Clocking one of her fastest speed figures, the daughter of Dark Angel now returns to a track where she has a whole host of solid performances next to her name in the past and with another likely decent pace to shoot at, there shouldn’t be too many excuses granted a clear run.
