Leg 1 Selections: Shamshon, Hurt You Never

SHAMSHON might be at the twilight stage of his career but he still has plenty of enthusiasm for the game and ran a very nice race when third over course-and-distance last time. Stuart Williams’ charge hasn’t won for a while but this is a winnable race and a repeat of his latest display could be enough to see him land the spoils.

HURT YOU NEVER has been very strong at the finish in both her latest starts at Newcastle and is a pound lower for her debut on today’s surface. Mia Nicholls keeps the ride, who claims her usual five pounds, and she is drawn well in stall three as well. She wouldn’t need to improve much more on what she has shown to date to go close in this race.

Leg 2 Selections: Let’s Fly Away, No Saint

A weak maiden for leg two and LET’S FLY AWAY could be the answer. Alice Haynes’ filly shaped with a lot of promise when fourth on her debut at Newcastle. She travelled well considering she was slow into stride and should have learnt a lot from that experience. This race is a tad weaker and she isn’t drawn that badly either, so she should be able to go well here.

The Michael Bell-trained NO SAINT hasn’t been beaten far in each of his three starts to date and should appreciate the step up in distance with more to come as well. He is drawn a bit wider than ideal but based on what he has already shown so far, he must have sound claims in a race of this nature. He is the second choice.

Leg 3 Selections: Erosion Risk, Bluff

EROSION RISK is the most exposed runner in the field but David Evans’ charge, who has an excellent claimer on his back, has made the frame in four of his seven starts so far and should be capable of getting into the mix here. This could be the time he gets rewarded for his consistency with all his experience to draw upon in leg three.

BLUFF split a pair of subsequent winners when third of 11 here on debut and given that form has a lot of substance, he is open to plenty of improvement over this distance. Furthermore, his trainer, Robert Cowell, is in excellent form with three winners from his last five runners at the time of recording as well. He makes plenty of appeal in this race.

Leg 4 Selections: Miss Nay Never, Double Dealing

John Quinn’s MISS NAY NEVER has a really good win strike-rate, winning 7 of her 26 Flat starts and concluded last year with back-to-back victories over course-and-distance. She is up in grade from a five pounds higher mark after a couple of months break but she is the only in-form horse in the race and gets a good draw in stall 1 too.

Despite meeting some well-handicapped types, the top-weight should make a bold bid in order to maintain her winning sequence. She is a solid favourite. If the favourite underperforms though, DOUBLE DEALING could be the one to take advantage given his trainer has won this for the last two years.

Leg 5 Selections: Giorgio Vasari, Mabre

GIORGIO VASARI has held his form well in three subsequent starts since winning at Wolverhampton in December. He has been slightly unlucky the last two times and although the assessor has slowly raised his mark another three pounds, he remains well-treated on his 2020 form when rated as high as 97. He makes the shortlist in leg five.

MABRE has to carry a penalty for his latest victory but he won with more in hand than the margin indicated and remains dangerously well-treated on lash exploits given he’s won and made the frame several times off higher marks in the past against higher-rated opponents. He has to be considered a threat to all in this line-up in his follow-up bid.

Leg 6 Selections: Comedian Leader, Twilight Jazz

COMEDIAN LEADER left her previous form behind when returning an easy winner at Southwell six days ago, where she came from off the pace to win going away. Rebel Angel is better off at the weights this time but Gay Kelleway's charge is fancied to confirm the placings and come out on top here as well in leg six.

TWILIGHT JAZZ might emerge as the biggest danger to the favourite. Mick Appleby’s filly improved significantly on her previous efforts when second at Wolverhampton last week, pushing an odds-on favourite close. A repeat performance here could be enough to see her go one better as she gets a lot of weight from Comedian Leader.
