Following a 6/4 winner yesterday, Steve Ryder is back with four tips from today's action.
15:15 Wetherby
This looks a competitive 0-145 handicap hurdle but two horses that I currently think are overpriced are PROGRESSIVE (best priced at 4/1) and FRONT VIEW (best priced at 13/2).
The Dr Richard Newland trained Progressive escapes a penalty for her impressive nine length victory in a conditional jockeys’ mares’ handicap hurdle on Friday where she was ridden by Luke Scott. The handicapper has raised her 6lbs for that victory up to a mark of 123 so she runs here 6lbs “well in” at the weights and she should prove hard to beat if staying this extra trip of 2m3½f.
If Progressive fails to get this extra trip then I feel her biggest danger is Front View who made an encouraging stable debut for Jonjo O’Neill in January when outrunning odds of 80/1. The eight-year-old had previously been a good handicapper for Joseph O’Brien where he was rated as high as 139 in Ireland.
He made his stable debut in a competitive Cheltenham handicap on Trials Day where he stayed on in eyecatching style under hands to heels to finish 7th beaten only 7 ½ lengths. The handicapper has dropped him 2lbs down to a mark of 130 and I expect to see an improved effort in this race.
15:25 Dundalk
The Mick Halford trained DOCTOR GRACE (best priced at 15/8) has a good record over this course and distance and she should prove hard to beat despite a 9lb rise by the handicapper. The three-year-old finished a 2nd by half a length on her first start over this course and distance before finishing a close 3rd following a 51 day break.
Doctor Grace made her form figures over this course and distance 231 with an impressive 3 ¼ length victory earlier this month off a mark of 54 and she should prove hard to beat despite a 9lb higher mark.
16:35 Dundalk
The Richard O’Brien trained SATONO CHEVALIER (best priced at 13/8) has form figures of 4221 at Dundalk and he should hold strong claims of repeating his course and distance success on Friday. The five-year-old had previously finished 2nd by a neck over 1m2½f off a mark of 61 before winning in impressive style by six lengths over this trip last week.
Satono Chevalier runs here under a 7lb penalty and I expect him to continue his good course and distance form.
