Andy Holding is back with two tips from the 20:00 today at Dundalk.
20:00 Dundalk
A poor draw rather determined the fate of MACADAM’S ROCK (best price 11/2) over tonight’s C&D last time out, but he did enough in the closing stages to warrant an interest back in a similar race on his return visit.
Marooned out wide in stall 14, the son of Fascinating Rock was dropped out by design to give him some sort of being competitive late on but as it turned out, he just had too much to do in the home straight.
He did, however, come home with plenty of purpose to finish on the heels of the main players and with a slightly better draw this evening, a chance is taken he can work himself into a better position to strike down the straight.
Of the rest, GIDWA (best price 16/1) rates one of the most interesting runners in the field, especially as he’s now racing back over his optimum trip.
A three-time winner on the all-weather over seven furlongs for Kevin Philippart De Foy when trained in the UK, the son of Ribchester had his first outing for new connections over tonight’s course two weeks ago and as it was over the minimum trip, he was always likely to struggle.
As predicted, John McConnell’s inmate was outpaced in the rear after missing the break and failing to hold his early position, but it was good to see him at least make some in roads to lost deficit inside the final two furlongs.
Whether that run has brought him on sufficiently enough to see him competitive in a race of this nature remains to be seen, but at 16/1 top price this morning, a chance is taken he proves a good deal more competitive this time around.
