Leg 1 Selections: Haven Lady, Ward Castle, A Shining Moon

HAVEN LADY is undeniably the most consistent of these and this course-and-distance winner has continued her good form with a pair of runner-up efforts the last two times. She has to be shortlist material from the same mark as when beaten just a neck last time coupled with a good draw in stall one.

WARD CASTLE was only beaten a head here back in December in a tougher race and could be competitive if able to rediscover that form, while A SHINING MOON drops into a class 6 for the first time in his career and might be able to get involved if the recent wind surgery has brought about some improvement.

Leg 2 Selections: Zoology

The step up to Group 1 company in the Middle Park proved a step too early for ZOOLOGY, but the fact he was highly tried at the top-level so soon in his career suggests he’s very smart and James Ferguson’s charge is strongly fancied to get back on track here.

The manner of his Yarmouth debut success was impressive, showing a turn of foot and this is a huge drop in grade from last time. With Oisin Murphy booked for the ride, he has to be recognised as the one to beat and the market reflects his chances.

Leg 3 Selections: Dear Daphne, Lumacho

DEAR DAPHNE was left with far too much to do when narrowly beaten at Leicester last-time-out but that was still a smart effort in defeat and she makes her handicap debut off what is a lenient mark. Daniel Muscutt also has an impressive 23% strike-rate at this course as well, who maintains the ride.

The George Boughey/William Buick combination could have a player in the form of LUMACHO, who won three times last year, including here, and she might bounce back. Her trainer and jockey have excellent statistics at this venue, so it is hard to leave her off the shortlist and she is worthy of inclusion for leg three.

Leg 4 Selections: Double March, Too Much

We move onto leg four, an interesting handicap, and I’ll opt for two last-time-out winners. Firstly DOUBLE MARCH, who made the frame on her first two starts before winning here in October. I think she has an excellent chance on her handicap debut ahead of her reappearance.

TOO MUCH was behind Mountain Song on debut but has improved enormously since and powered to success over course-and-distance when last spotted. She has been raised five pounds for that victory but that still shouldn’t prevent her from running another big race with a nice draw in stall one.

Leg 5 Selections: Cavalluccio, Tom Tulliver

This race could prove to be a good opportunity for CAVALLUCCIO to supplement his latest win over course-and-distance with more success whilst the iron is hot. A five pound penalty makes his task tougher but he remains the one to beat turned out quickly following that latest win over How Bizarre.

TOM TULLIVER has been on the go for a while but continues to run consistently well and has won twice here in recent weeks. He ran another fine race when second here last time and could be thereabouts with Luke Morris in the saddle.

Leg 6 Selections: South Dakota Sioux, Urban Dandy, Doctor Mozart

SOUTH DAKOTA SIOUX wasn’t at his best when only fifth last time but has made the frame on more than one occasion to suggest he is capable of winning a race of this nature if things go his way in the interim. Perhaps this is the race he will finally deliver the goods in leg six.

URBAN DANDY has won two of his last three starts, including a win here and this mark doesn’t look beyond him as he won a shade more comfortably than the winning margin suggested last time. He is only up three pounds, while DOCTOR MOZART has placed the last twice and has a chance under Rossa Ryan.
