Leg 1 Selections: Sovereign Spirit, Lionella

SOVEREIGN SPIRIT was on-and-off the bridle at Southwell last time in a four-runner event but was only beaten a couple of lengths and the hood is discarded here. This is a slightly easier race than last time, so he might be able to open his account under the assistance of Oisin Murphy. Alan King has a good strike-rate here and his LIONELLA is respected on handicap debut with Rossa Ryan booked to ride.

Leg 2 Selections: Sausalito, Masqool

The handicapper has not missed SAUSALITO but Gary Moore’s charge is absolutely flying this year and completed a five-timer here in March before placing in two subsequent starts. He was only denied by a short head here last time in a much stronger race and Billy Loughnane is reunited with him, who has guided him to his past two victories. He has a major chance, while MASQOOL has two course wins to his name and should be thereabouts.

Leg 3 Selections: Inverlochy, Labiqa

INVERLOCHY made a promising debut last May at Newmarket when fourth in a race that has worked out well and given she was sent off favourite, she has the potential to be smart. This is easier, so while we haven’t seen her since, she’s undoubtedly the one to beat on that evidence. LABIQA has displayed a bit of promise after two starts and could get competitive if able to take a step forward in this race.

Leg 4 Selections: Swiss Rowe, The Nail Gunner

SWISS ROWE produced a career-best performance when scoring at Kempton last time and while this will be his first trip to this course, from a six pounds higher mark, he just about shades the verdict with more to come. THE NAIL GUNNER won three times last year and is only two pounds higher than for his latest success, so a bold bid is anticipated from the top-weight.

Leg 5 Selections: Windsor Pass

WINDSOR PASS ran well on the back of a lengthy absence on stable debut at Newcastle, where she came from off the pace to be beaten under a length into second and the handicapper has essentially only raised her mark a pound. She was a neck second off this mark to a 98-rated horse in 2021 in Ireland, so she is evidently well-treated and is fancied to go one better with that latest solid performance under her belt.

Leg 6 Selections: Gold Medal, Mamillius, Swiss Pride

GOLD MEDAL gained reward for his consistency when scoring a shade comfortably over course-and-distance last month. A four pound rise seems very fair upon reflection. Meanwhile MAMILLIUS is also a course-and-distance winner, who has fallen to a dangerous mark and could go well from a nice draw in stall 4. SWISS PRIDE loves it here, who has six course-and-distance wins to his name and cannot be discounted.
