Steve Ryder is back with three tips from today's racing action.
15:50 Perth
This looks a competitive 0-140 handicap chase but preference goes to the Nicky Richards trained UNCLE ALASTAIR (best priced at 7/2) who won in a first time visor last time at Carlisle. The lightly raced eleven-year-old had gradually dropped down the handicap before winning for the first time since January 2018 at Carlisle off a mark of 126.
The form of that Carlisle race has been boosted by the runner-up Lord Du Mesnil (beaten 3 ¾ lengths by Uncle Alastair) finishing a close 2nd at Cheltenham on his next start and the selection runs here from 1lb “well in” at the weights. Brian Hughes retains the ride and he should prove hard to beat if in the same form.
16:50 Punchestown
The Gordon Elliott trained RIVIERE D'ETEL (best priced at 8/1) was slowly creeping into contention in the Mares’ Chase at Cheltenham last time but was bumped in mid-air and fell at the 3rd last fence. She had previously had top class form as a novice last season when finishing 2nd behind Ferny Hollow and Blue Lord and a back operation had looked have got her back to her best at Cheltenham.
Riviere D’Etel has always had a tendency to jump right-handed which was evident again at Cheltenham so this return to a right-handed track should suit and she looks overpriced again the novices Impervious and Allegorie De Vassy.
18:25 Chepstow
Both JETOILE (best priced at 5/2) and Northern Bound arrive here in winning form but preference goes to the selection whose victory came over this course and distance. The Ryan Potter trained eight-year-old is 2/2 at Chepstow in his career and he was well supported to win a four runner race last time here when sent off 4/5 favourite.
The runner-up Sail Away (beaten 3 ½ length) has boosted the form since with an 11 length win at Ayr and the handicapper has retrospectively raised Jetoile 2lbs as a result. He instead runs here off only a 5lb higher mark so he is 2lbs “well in” at the weights and he should prove hard to beat.
