Law Of The Sea and Carzola hold leading claims but the former who was fourth in the Chester Cup will face different conditions this time.
I reckon both of them need to improve to get the better of Charlie Johnston’s THEMAXWECAN (best price 15/2) if the latter is on a going day, who is only a pound higher than when winning a competitive renewal of the Shergar Cup Stayers at Ascot.
The seven-year-old could never land a blow in the Queen’s Cup at Musselburgh on his return but will be fitter and stronger here and has conditions to suit.
He has won off higher marks in the past and this course should suit his positive way of racing. He merits consideration as unlike the two at the head of the betting, he’s proven at this level off this mark and higher.

In the Betfred Silver Bowl Handicap, I’ll side with handicap debutant DEFENCE OF PORT (best price 7/1) who won very nicely last summer on his debut at Ascot and will find this easier than the last two times.
He was pitched into a pair of Group 3 events on his next two starts and while he was rather disappointing, he has been gelded since and his trainer, who has his only runner of the day, has kept him fresh for this.
He has been amongst the winners of late, so that bodes well for this three-year-old, who is well-handicapped for his handicap debut off 88 on the balance of his form. He makes plenty of appeal with four places widely on offer.

Extra Racing Tips for Haydock & York
BEDFORD FLYER (best price 13/2) couldn’t sustain the late charge of Korker when behind that rival at York last time when third but he travelled well for a long way and did well to make the frame.
The handicapper has left him on the same mark here and he has bags of course experience. His latest performance was on stable debut for Mick Appleby, so he’s highly likely to build on that in this race. If he does, he’s a sound each-way player with four places available, generally.

An excellent line-up for the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes and I am quite interested in the claims of two runners, firstly MILL STREAM (best price 16/1), who could be an each-way shout at large odds as he makes his return to action.
Jane Chapple-Hyam classy three-year-old made a winning debut at Doncaster last July before pushing Noble Style to within half-a-length when second at York and then finished fourth in what was a strong renewal of the Acomb at York on his final start.
He hasn’t been seen since but his trainer will have him prepared for this reappearance and conditions will suit and he’s a huge price for a horse who’s form would be enough to run well with more to come. He is Jane’s only runner on the card as well.

In the Temple Stakes, I like the claims of HAPPY ROMANCE (best price 14/1) who has lots of smart form to her name and arrives on the back of a smooth success in a Listed event at Bath.
She has been mixing it with some of the best sprinters around and was second in a Group 1 last year, plus she ran well on her last visit here when a close-up fourth in the Group 1 Sprint Cup Stakes.
That is amongst the best form in the field and other bits of form are strong as well, including her seventh in the Platinum Jubilee at Royal Ascot last year. She will need luck-in running but she gets the breaks, she surely goes close. Four places widely on offer.
