Charlie Appleby has won the previous three renewals of this race with Boccaccio in 2019, New Science in 2021 and Naval Power in 2022 and hopefully he can win it for the fourth time in a row with Inner City (best priced at 13/8). The son of Dubawi is well bred being out of Group 1 winner Urban Fox and he cost 1,100,000gns as a yearling.

Inner City faces some well bred rivals including Royal Army and Quatre Bras and the standard set by Marroof isn’t too high following a couple of 3rd placed efforts at Bath and Wetherby. Connections will have Royal Ascot aspirations for Inner City and hopefully he can make a winning debut in this race.

Iva Batt (best priced at 11/4) has made a good start since joining Ado McGuinness this season and she should hold strong claims following her close 2nd last time. The five-year-old was beaten by a head at Naas off a mark of 69 in April before finishing 2nd by ½ length at the Curragh off a mark of 73 on Sunday.

The handicapper has raised Iva Batt 4lbs for that latest run at the Curragh up to a mark of 77 but she runs here instead off a mark of 73 meaning that she is 4lbs “well in” at the weights. Adam Caffrey takes over on board taking off a handy 7lbs and I expect her to prove hard to beat.

This looks a weak 0-70 handicap and preference goes to Harbour Vision (best priced at 4/1) who is 2lbs “well in” at the weights. The Scott Dixon trained eight-year-old was making his first appearance on turf since July when finishing a short head 2nd over this course and distance last time when outrunning odds of 33/1 a week ago.

The handicapper has raised Harbour Vision 2lbs for that near miss but he instead runs here from 2lbs “well in” at the weights with Elisha Whittington taking off a further 5lbs. He looks worth taking a chance on back over this course and distance off the same mark.
