Leg 1 Selections: Tantalus, Lola’s Moment

TANTALUS returned a good second at Catterick when last seen and is only a pound higher for this race with cheekpieces fitted. He has an excellent chance to go one better, though LOLA’S MOMENT could offer some value, who is dropped into a class 6 for the first time. She has already made the frame three times in her career, so she isn’t short of ability.

Leg 2 Selections: Absolute Ruler, National Charter

ABSOLUTE RULER is operating from a career-low mark over hurdles and has recently made a good start to his hurdles career, finishing second on hurdles debut before going one better at Huntingdon. He has a good chance back on the level, while NATIONAL CHARTER went close at this course last year off a pound higher mark and is feared most.

Leg 3 Selections: Hug A Tree, Passionately

HUG A TREE caught the eye when a running-on third at Salisbury 10 days ago and is open to plenty more improvement for the Michael Bell team, who has had a couple of near-misses recently. He should be hard to beat, though PASSIONATELY ran well when fifth on debut in France and will make her UK debut in a winnable race with Jason Hart booked to ride.

Leg 4 Selections: Jazz Samba, Harriet’s Angel

JAZZ SAMBA won on her reappearance in May but was ultimately left with far too much to do back at the same course three weeks ago. She is fancied to get back on track down in distance here. HARRIET’S ANGEL has displayed promise in all three starts to date and has been given a lenient mark for her handicap debut. She should be able to figure prominently in this race.

Leg 5 Selections: Captain Potter, Opera Legend

CAPTAIN POTTER finished second in his first two starts and although he returned a beaten favourite when only fourth at Newcastle when last seen, he retains potential and has a chance on his handicap debut. OPERA LEGEND only found one too good last-time-out and is another to be making his handicap debut from a potentially lenient mark. He also merits consideration in this contest.

Leg 6 Selections: Red Astaire, Ricksen

RED ASTAIRE improved for the fitting of cheek-pieces when second at Redcar last week and has been left on the same mark for this slightly easier assignment. He has excellent claims but I will cover RICKSEN, who has previously placed several times off higher marks and cannot be dismissed.
