Leg 1 Selections: Arranmore, Giovanni Baglione

It’s coming up to nearly two years since ARRANMORE last saw the winners enclosure but he has placed numerous times since then and was last seen finishing second off this mark at Hamilton. If he can repeat that performance in this contest, he might be able to go one better. GIOVANNI BAGLIONE ran well back from a break when third at Yarmouth and the booking of James Doyle catches the eye as well. Good chance.

Leg 2 Selections: Star Of Mystery

James Doyle rode a winner for Charlie Appleby yesterday and he could do so again on STAR OF MYSTERY, who displayed bundles of promise when runner-up on debut at Doncaster. This filly should have plenty more to come and even though she is up against a few newcomers who have the potential to be useful, she can put her experience to good use and potentially go one better. Either way, she is solid material to at least make the frame.

Leg 3 Selections: Impressive Act, Irish Nectar

IMPRESSIVE ACT was a bit underwhelming when only third at Leicester having been sent off odds-on favourite but his second on debut at York reads well and he might be able to get back on track by taking the spoils. IRISH NECTAR produced a promising effort first-time-out at Hamilton and should be able to build on that in this drop in grade. If the favourite fluffs his lines again, Kevin Ryan’s charge is the likely alternative option to pick up the pieces.

Leg 4 Selections: Dandy Dinmont, Rum Cocktail

DANDY DINMONT couldn’t arrive into the race in better form, who’s not been out of the frame since the beginning of October last year. He ran really well when third of 16 in the Beverley Beaker off a two pounds higher mark in April and chased home a 92-rated rival when last spotted. He is surely still well-treated off a mark of 77 and is therefore a big player. RUM COCKTAIL was having her first start for Ed Walker when third at Ascot last-time-out and is a pound lower for this contest. With more to come, she should be thereabouts.

Leg 5 Selections: Paddy’s Day, Match Play

PADDY’S DAY clearly disliked heavy ground when last seen at Nottingham and is better judged on his earlier form, including when third off a three pounds higher mark at Windsor last year. He won two starts ago on the all-weather and should be able to get back to form, while MATCH PLAY ran well when eight of 18 at York and this presents a huge drop in class. He should be able to make much more of an impact from a mark that is well within range.

Leg 6 Selections: Trais Fluors, Roman Dynasty

TRAIS FLUORS was a pretty classy horse a few years back and rolled back the years to win smoothly at Goodwood six days ago. He escapes a penalty, which is good, and he remains well ahead of the assessor. He is by far the best horse in the race and should prove hard to beat. ROMAN DYNASTY is included as cover though, who has fallen to a dangerous mark and could have a part to play under Ben Curtis.
